Chess is not a sport. That's like saying Chutes and Ladders is a sport.

Chess is a sport, you play chess as a game, but you don't even know about the chess ring that is envolved, in a similar layout as the EPL, each player plays each other twice etc...

as someone else said, just because it doesn't envolve a team and theres no ball of some sorts involved doesn't mean it's not a sport.

how can things such as F1 and archary be a sport, but not poker and chess?

thats because of the slow gameplay.

it's not really very exciting unless you understand to a very high depth the stratergy behind every move.
