Gonna start this thing back up, with me and Dirgey alternating every other week. I would have posted this yesterday, but I was kinda busy.

Pokemon of the Week #6 (10/15/2012)

Cinccino

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Cinccino_(Pokémon)

Cinccino, the Scarf Pokemon. Their white fur feels amazing to touch. Their fur repels dust and prevents static electricity from building up. The fur is also coated in a special oil that helps it deflect attacks, such as punches.

Cinccino, although not really a great Pokemon in general, is the king of the NU tier. At first glace, it seems to be a generic Normal-type with high speed. However, access to Skill Link and Technician, which are complimented by moves like Tail Slap, Bullet Seed, Rock Blast, and Wake Up Slap, it becomes quite the attacker. Skill Link lets multi-hit moves hit the full 5 times, giving Tail Slap, Bullet Seed, and Rock Blast the equivalent of 125 base power, which is really good, especially considering Tail Slap also gets STAB. Skill Link is the most reliable option, but if you're willing to gamble a bit, Technician gives a large boost in power. Technician gives hits with 60 or under power a boost of 1.5x, so if the previously mentioned multi hit moves hit the full 5 times, they'll have 188 base power. It also powers up Wake Up Slap so Cinccino can damage Steel types. Regardless of the ability, Cinccino has the power to do severe damage, especially in the NU tier.

What do I think of Cinccino? I think it's okay. For normal types I prefer Porygon-Z, Snorlax, Wigglytuff, Delcatty, Ditto, and some others, but Cinccino is still cute. It's probably my favorite Generation 5 Normal-type, since I don't really like any of the others.

There're very few Pokes that I don't dislike if their theme is t' be cute and cuddly; Cincinno (and it's pre-evolve form, 'course) are one'a the few I do care for. Chinchillas are awesome. So is the oh-so adorable Cincinno, I'd say. Did I mention I liek Chinchillas?

[STRIKE]Normal type, fast, abuses STAB Technician... My god, it's a not-so-ugly Ambipom.[/STRIKE]

It's that time again; time for me t' be a lazy sod and only be an hour or two late with my typin' garbage. Here it is, [STRIKE]my heart and soul put into Poketext[/STRIKE] my garbage PotW.

Pokemon of the Week #7 (10/23/2012)

Mismagius

429.png

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mismagius_(Pokémon)

Mismagius, the Magical Pokemon. Its cries sound like incantations. Those hearing it are tormented by headaches and hallucinations. It is said that the cry may rarely be imbued with happiness-giving power.

The RNG surprisingly threw #429 at me randomly, I didn't choose Mismagius t' coincide with the approach of Halloween. That aside, I think Mismagius is somewhat cool, albeit's design rather lackin' in creativity. It's relatively obvious what Mismagius is based on; a witch. The witch's hat, it's body lookin' like a wizard's cloak, the "Magical" Pokemon... Quite clear indeed. In that respect, it's design succeeds in what it tries to do, particularly imaginative or not. It's certainly cooler than it's pre-evolved form, Misdreavus. I moderately like it, I'd say.

In terms of competitive 'mons, Mismagius definitely started off strong in the early days of DP. Gengar gave it stiff competition in every regard; better stats, better movepool; but Mismagius had a single move Gengar didn't: Calm Mind, a boosting move. If Mismagius was on a team in OU, ya could bet it was a late-game sweeper meant to clean up with it's great speed and Calm Mind. Unlike most other CMers, Mismagius is also fast, lettin' it CM or Substitute quicker than many other popular SubCM Pokes like Suicune. This left it's counters with less room to... well, counter. However, it's still horrendously weak to physical attacks, so though it may of never been overly popular, the Magical Pokemon was a truly valid threat.

Come DPP, Mismagius had some mixed reactions in it's attempt to blend into the new metagame. Firstly, it outright dropped into UU. It was a good CMer, but there were simply better Pokemon for the role. CB Scizor had entered the fray and began it's Pursuit of metagame-terror (dat pun!). If Mismagius didn't wanna switch out every time it came in, which would result in a fatal smack of Scizor's Pursuit, it'd have to run HP Fire over Fighting. That destroys the notion of impeccable coverage Shadow Ball and HP Fighting offers. Even then, HP Fire isn't a fullproof means to own Scizor since, as mentioned, Mismagius' physical defenses are paper-thin. Bullet Punch would ruin it just as badly if it elected to stay in and try to burn the bug like a Heatmor to a Durant. New threats and superior CM sweepers put Mismagius outta a job in OU; though it still was a major threat in UU.

However, some time after Platinum entered the fray with move tutors, HGSS brought a new 'n dangerous tool in the form of Nasty Plot. Now Mismagius could either opt for a slow sweep entirely immune to opposing special attackers, or a deadly-quick set up in one turn. This didn't bring it out of UU 'course, since many other (superior) threats like Lucario also got NP. Either way, it certainly became more deadly as a result of it's newest stat-up move.

Come BW, Mismagius hasn't changed at all, but considering the current UU metagame, that's a good thing. Psychic types like Mew or Victini are everywhere, targets for a STAB Shadow Ball indeed. Thanks to that useful STAB as a good Special Defense, it also can be used for support or status rather than just sweeping as well since it learns WoW, T-Wave, etc.

Dark types and especially foes that hit far too hard for Mismagius to handle are more common than ever in OU unfortunately, and it's NP coming off of base 105 Sp.A isn't scary enough anymore. Haxorus with a Band laughs at it. Specs Latios has superior typing and movepool. Mismagius is in UU to stay more likely than not, 'specially not with it bein' overshadowed by the forever-OU Gengar.

Now, you go ahead 'n take "that ****" outta the OP, Nicky. :p

...

[STRIKE]Lemme do it for ya then.[/STRIKE]

It's part ghost.

It ain't very Halloween-ish regardless. That, and I didn't choose Mismagius intentionally anywho. Nick's got the choice for the holiday. ... And it won't be Shedinja. Amiright or amiright, fellow fishing guru? ;D
