Connection Help

Okay, I don't know how any of this works, seeing as how I've never had any of my consoles online before.

I have Charter cable internet. How do I get connected to it from my Wii?

Somoene told me I should try WiFi, so I went to the appropriate options menu etc, and selected "choose access point". There was only one to choose from, so I selected it. After which, it asked me to try a connection test.

So it started doing that, and about two minutes later I got an error messege.

Error messege 51330

If this wasn't the right way to connect to the net on my Wii, then what is?

I have Charter Cable Internet too. What kind of modem are you using? What kind of WiFi are you using?

Check out this website and try these suggestions. If they don't work I have a few suggestions of my own but first I need to know the above questions.

I don't know anything about WiFi. My friend said that if I had internet, the Wii should be able to pick up the internet.

That site didn't help because it kept mentioning routers and I don't even know what a router is.

And my modem says "Ambit" on it, if that helps with your wanting to know what type it was.

for anyone who is having trouble getting connected to the internet.

(i dont have a Wii)
but i read that you should turn off other wireless devices in your house. (cell phones, wireless mouses, etc). i also read that some old microwaves can effect the signal too.

hope that helps.

Your friend is wrong, if you have wireless internet the Wii will pick it up with a few modifications. But you need a wireless device that gives a signal that the internet is there. Go to any coffee shop and they should tell you if they have "WiFi" or not - a lot of them do. The Wi-Fi is a wireless signal that the coffee shop has so that all you do is walk in with your laptop and the computer knows that there is a wireless signal in the coffee shop and you can get right on the internet, no charge. But the coffee shop had to specifically install a "router" that gives off a signal for the internet. Sort of like cell phones and cell phone towers. If you live in the middle of nowhere, you can't use your cell phone because there isn't a tower nearby to receive the signal. That is why cell phones work well in big cities because they are flooded with cell signals and towers.

Then the simple thing I want to know is how do I get internet on my Wii? Dx

I bought the WiFi Max for the Nintendo Wii and DS Lite at Bestbuy for about $40. But unless you're a pro at wireless, or you know someone that is, I wouldn't suggest it. I've had nothing but problems and I still can't get it to work. I don't know how it will effect your system and you may get into a hole you can't get out of. I was nearly there but I have a technical support experience. But I still haven't figured it out. If you get wireless internet and set-up a home network - cost is between $300-$400 dollars - then you can get it easily. Bestbuy or Charter will help set everything up and they'll help with the Wii. If I can't get this WiFi Max thing to work that's my next step.

All the people on this site already have a wireless network in their house and their just trying to set-up their Wii, so even with a network its a challenge. I don't want discourage you from trying or getting everything you can out of your Wii, but it's not easy. Sorry. I hope I didn't ruin your night. I'll be happy to help you with anything you need, but first you need a wireless router.

ok I have made it past 209600 once or twice but then i get error 209576. I hate the support nintendo has it is impossible to reach them by phone and 2 days for email is a waste of time too. Does anyone know what either of these mean?
Mine did the EXACT thing as you. I have no idea what it means, though. If you find out anything please tell me, i'll do the same!

Sorry guys i still have my error code popping up. The WiFi USB Connector works fine as it picks up my Wii and DS but whenever the Wii tried to connect to the net i still get the 52042 error code. I don't have a wireless connection (other than the USB WiFi of course) as my DSL modem is linked directly to the comp and the phone socket. Any help i've found on the net talks about changing your wireless router's channel, not very helpful for someone without a wireless router you can imagine. Anyway i've tried changing my computer IP address but i can't change the others as for some bizarre reason they don't appear when i type the IPCONFIG/ALL . Thanks for the help though, if anyone has any more suggestions PLEASE feel free to post them. It's still the best console around though :)
