Wii - A Gateway to Porn and Pedobear?

Corey,

As ever thanks for the reply.

No no, thank you ;)

The whole point is, of course, is that - we are certainly attempting to be exploited by leaders, who to be fair, are obviously very little in-touch with these issues on a ground level [Execpt Tony Ben, he knows more about technology than Gates, Jobs & Woz all put together:lol:]

Some get suckered in - i.e. Super PornoTalk Group (dial 69 as their extension:sick: ) - but in the main I certainly think we have hit the age of ignoring politicians due to bullsh*t fatigue....good and proper! Scaremongering is certinaly ephemeral now-a-days.

I used to get pretty riled up about the way politicians would use gaming as their scapegoat du jour, but these days I'll calm down from Hulk levels of rage within a week or so. 'Super Lawyer! Jack Thompson!' mostly makes me laugh now. Although the stuff aimed against Bully/Canis Canum Edit, in this country especially, was really off. That was a witch hunt of the lowest barrel scraping degree.

Exactly....money! If Labour made the PS3 then it would be the greatest console ever to be made and you wouldn't need a congestion charge or ID card to buy one! IT WOULD BE LAW TO OWN IT..! :prrr:
[PS3 - that's not to say it isn't of course!]

Such a law is coming. The interweb told me…
Of course young children shouldn't be subjected to pornography and all the moral implications it brings but they shouldn't be subjected to pre-watershed tv soap operas (just because they are crap not because of another spurious reason) - they shouldn't be subjected to a whole heap of morally degrading content in the media and advertising, sex sells - or did they forget the BJ that a Cadbury flake got every advert! etc etc etc, hell no-one complains about programs like deal or no deal which glorifies begging to all intents and purposes...:ciappa:

I also remember the Cadbury's Caramel ad with the sexy bunny (complete with honeycomb voice)! I think she was Jessica Rabbit's Mom or something. I'm surprised my parents didn’t cover my eyes whenever Caramel bunny was on TV. Bad Cadbury's BAD!

Nudey articles - hmmmm :frown2: ermmm, tsk, oooooo, eeeee ahhh (Cheesus I've just realised what those noises could be interpretated as.. )
No definately not..!

Yeah yeah, I consider this a thumbs up for my suggestion! The people have spoken!

No comment! :nonod:

The day Bill turns it on for me then that will be the day I leave the monastry.

If there's anyone who could make you leave… it's Bill. You can't resist him. His indecent proposals are like the Caramel bunny; smooth, sugary and oh so tempting. You'll see! *cackles*

I've seen said pic and must advise that she change that brand of face cream she is currently using....:yikes:

Yeah, not sure what happened there. Scary stuff indeed. Many crude things are entering my mind right now, but this is not the place I should air them. I have a rep to maintain ;)

Dude, this guy should carry on pontificating to whoever will listen - Rockstar must be laughing all the way to the bank, all his letters to - well anyone he's ever heard of really  - may be fueling the fires but are also raising the profile for the dev houses who create and market these games - POW!!...Free advertising and cache - the establishment wants it banned it must be cool!! ect
"all publicity is good publicity" - ha ha look at Kate Moss for gods sake...never been more popular since she was denounced for snorting a tad of marching powder!!!

I mean have you read his "Killer7" rant - considering he had to read the reviews on his favourite site "Gamespot" and backed it up with quotes from IGN, he must have wanted to see the wanton sex scenes and gallons of blood "everywhere" in the game - c'mon Jack just a peek, can you get a hur hur, just a peek, just a little peek

Mary Whitehouse had nothing on this cat!!!

All too true - maybe Jack is in cahoots with the industry and he's playing us all for fools, making money off this all... actually, that makes too much sense... I'm... I'm scared...

Tell me about it - I'm starting to think that maybe he IS Mary Whitehouse (God rest her soul) reborn in his body. Lord knows what he's going to say about No More Heroes, seeing as that's supposed to be more violent and graphic than Killer7. Not before he gets sunk into Manhunt 2, though. Marked-for-DEATH!

But in all tongue-in-cheek half arsed seriousness (not wanting to drag this down to a serious conversation) - as an industry bod..

Do you think that this will affect any content in any project development either immediately or in the future?

Or

Is this just the fact that Mr T is blowing smoke into the ether?

Whitehouse did, after all, manage to "influence TV for the greater good at a crucial stage in the development both of the BBC and of ITV" - can Thompson achieve this with the behemoth that is the games industry........?

Any thoughts...?

This topic is laughable. Are you not surprised that parents are demonizing the wii simply b/c it is the new, neat thing to buy for your kids? That just so happens to have the potential to get on the internet? There will always be witch hunts and rallys to protest this sort of thing, and that will never change. I guess they moved away from PS3 bashing for now since most parents won't give their 9 year old a $600 gaming console. And to make all the parents happy, Sony said they will refuse to allow adult film producers to use the blue-ray format for porn. (Which makes no sense to me, since it will need as much support as possible to keep it from being another beta failure, and most ps3 owners will be adult males over the age of 18).

Well until we find ways to block all adult oriented things from your kids' cellphone, radio,pc,wii, ect; we must continue our crusade to bring back the moral era of the 50's. Back then things were safe and parents never explained anything sexual to their kids, since the idea of an unwed couple having a child was just unthinkable.

Q:What ever happened to the good ole' days when we all got along and were all nice god-fearing people?

A:We evolved.

This pr although intended to be negative will just increase the popularity of the wii.

The article was okay, but not worth wasting a topic on. We all knew this would happen. So when it finally did why bother posting the media's uptight response to the new threatening console that is enslaving their child's mind? IMHO this whole thread was rather pointless.

To be honest, I think most of what's going to happen regarding content censorship of sorts (self inflicted, imposed or otherwise) has already happened and anything else is very much a case of minor adjustments. Jack Thompson has affected many an industry, and which this may well be his new moral crusade the Hot Coffee incident was, for all intents and purposes, a side issue rather than a direct 'problem' per se. Certificate boards and the enforcing of them in shops is about as tough as things will get, short of our governments suddenly turning Orwellian on us and other entertainment forms take a sacrifice as well, which I think -thankfully- we're a long way off seeing, despite the current political climate of conservatism (as we discussed earlier, too many people have too much to make from freedom of speech and choice – hell, look how long it's taken for smoking to be banned in many places). If something as ill advised as the Columbine School Massacre RPG can get out, most dev-cos won't be sweating too much at this stage, I presume.

I do honestly think we should enforce the age restriction on games more, but sadly that's unlikely to happen until parents and people in higher places of power who actually play games (or at least be knowledgeable about them) start to become a majority. There's an increasing number of gamers who are now parents and know the range of content for games doesn’t make every title suitable for children, but we're still fighting the misconception that games are for kids, so I'm guessing we're a good 5 years off before we get the same respect for certification boards that films do.

But on a whole, I don’t think we're in too much danger from Thompson and the like. I think we've already had a few wake-up calls and are probably due a couple more but at the same time I don’t think it will affect games development too much. I think the internet, as irritating as it can be, has made us too aware of world happenstance for there to not be a large reaction against a stringent conservative movement within the games industry, especially as the generation most active online is that which has grown up with games. I think if the internet was around and popular during the Mary Whitehouse days, she may not have been as effective as she was…

What's the point of any satire? Therein lies your answer...

Thanks for reading, regardless.
