Then you have to worry about your computer being out of date in a year because some new game comes out. If i buy a ps3 I know it will play every single game that comes out for it in its lifetime. Lets see your computer play games 5 years from now. Well maybe sims but thats about it.
The technology in your pc is just as out of date as the technology in your PS3 in 5 years. Too bad you can't upgrade your console like you can a PC. My current PC graphics look much better than a PS3 ever can or will. In 5 years it will still be the same way. Comparing PC to PS3 the PC is always going to trump it in terms of power of course.
That being said I have a PC I built 5 years ago and it still plays modern games just fine. Just as good as your consoles. However at least with your PC you can upgrade it part by part instead of dropping $500 into it at once. Not only that you can include whatever type of media reader you want or burner. Can your PS3 burn Blu-Ray discs? No but the $600 Blu-Ray burner that newegg.com sells can. FPS' are clearly far superior on the PC platform as with most RPGs. But I love my consoles too.
I do however clearly understand that my PC is a hell of a lot more powerful as far as processing and graphics horsepower are concerned. The Lower-Middle end of this generation of cards can outperform the PS3, xbox360 or wii's graphical power. They cost from $130-250. Higher and is obvious.
There are many monitors that are TV's in their own right. Take Dells 27" LCD Widescreen model, or Samsung's 42" WS LCD for PCs. TV's in this sense are a moot point as well as sound. The sound produced by modern soundcards are insanely more powerful than what the consoles have and produce cleaner and crisper sound especially in surround sound.
As far as good games go, apparently you've been stuck in Sony fanboy land the past 5 years. Missed out on many PC games that far outclassed many console games. Either way if I buy a PC I know it will play any game I purchase in its parts' lifetime as well.
However at least with your PC you can upgrade it part by part instead of dropping $500 into it at once.
