Project M Discussion Thread

Some people must really want me to play snake... I don't think I'll be able to play this without being an Azen about it, I just can't do it. It hurts my style more by limiting my counterpicks then it does help me by letting me learn more depth to a character, I'll typically just learn everything about the character anyway due to matchup knowledge.

Does full hop mean: Jump two times? Cause if so... He does that really quick o_o

youre so good at asscreed but such a smash noob lmao

There're two types of off-the-ground jumps: short hop and full hop. A short hop is when you very quickly press your jump and don't hold down the button/analogue stick at all, causing your jump height to be very small. A full hop is when ya hold down your jump input and get your full jump height. The difference is really noticeable with pretty much every character. Try it next time you're Smashing.

If you're wondering why anyone would ever short hop as opposed to full and vice verse, that there Snake Flash is an obvious example why full hopping is optimal. Regarding short hop, tons of characters have fantastic aerial attacks. A short hop is often the best way to make use of 'em since you'll be in the air vulnerable for less time. A great example is Marth's Forward Aerial. If you short hop and spam F-air, you can land two in succession... and on heavy characters, then follow up with a grab the moment ya land. If Marth does a full hop F-air, the opponent won't be in range t' get hit by the second F-air, and obviously not a grab. Marth lingers in the air for awhile too since he's "floaty", so you'd put yourself in a bad position by full hopping.

I'm a tech noob, that's true, but I wouldn't really call me a Smash Noob... But thanks for the Asscreed compliment :3
I knew there was a difference between holding the button, but I didn't know how to call it, so thanks for the answer and the extra tips.
My friend who's about as good as me in Brawl is always abusing the F-Air when playing with Marth, lol.

It just didn't seem likely to me that he held the button, since he instantly used up special after he jumped when he was still pretty low to the ground, so I thought that was kinda weird.

The move is hilariously abuse-able, ain't it? 'Specially in vBrawl since in that game you can F-air again quicker, the move has less endlag. vBrawl Marth can put up an especially nasty wall of F-airs which, when well-spaced, some characters have a really hard time getting past it.

You can perform a move out of a jump very quickly. Combine it with Snake's janky jumps, and it most certainly does look weird lol.

..Wow

What did Samus do at 0:38? She teleported right to the other side of the field o_o

Super wave dashing, it's a fairly hard to do technique specific to Samus.
It's kind of like wave dashing out of a bomb, except you don't dodge, you just roll backwards from the direction you want to go, then forwards. The timing is really specific (two frames), and the only person I've seen put it to use consistently is ESAM, who is godly.

That said, I could to it in melee, so with practice, it should come. Pointless bragging rights that I have no way to confirm... *sigh*, why do I bother...

Wow thanks. That looks really unnatural, lol.
I might give it a try, if Project M releases earlier in Europe than SSB4 does...

Where's this tread been?!
Days of searching! (not really)

Really wish I had my Wii back or that my laptop could handle this game.

For the next time you cant find it: Type "Project M" in the Search Forums tool bar... (upper right corner after pressing "home")

So, am I really the only one complaining about Lucas? I mean... he just seems broken in about every way:

(Charged B) Disjoint Fsmash and vertical disjoint Usmash both of which have too much power, feels like Ike in brawl, 'xcept way too fast, Dairs from hell, like if Wolf's and Snake's had some sort of demented chimera baby. A grab on par with Link's, when you factor the speed and range into account (but less punishable), but he has throws that kill before 200, and he sets up for more dairs... his nair feels like a cross between Wolf's and MKs, and his recovery actually doesn't seem that bad anymore...

Decent camping ability, even if freeze has no priority. Then there's magnet shenanigans that I feel could be broken, if anyone actually put some effort in; like learning shine shenanigans with Fox. He basically feels like a spacy that hits like a truck and does twice the damage he should.

I mean, the only Lucas player of note that I can think of is Pinkfresh, what if someone legit picks him up? Theory-crafting wise, he seems broken on paper, but no one good plays him.

Of course, then people tell me I'm just some scrub who screams nerf at every little thing... But according to the same people who disagree Mewtwo is broken, 'cause up tilt spam...

Lucas' grab is on par with Link's

Better, because its hitbox stays out for-bloody-ever. If a tether grab is beating a perfectly timed spot-dodge, this is an issue. That hitbox needs t' disappear a few frames sooner.

wat eez dis sheet

PinkFresh is legit. He certainly ain't M2K, but a nerfed Lucas doesn't mean he'll suddenly disappear from winning P:M tourneys.

Speakin' of, I occasionally see PinkFresh use Lucas' Down-B for interesting shield pressure. Usually does somethin' with crazy-few frames to escape from like magnet -> N-air -> magnet-> confirm combo/grab 'cause you're scared as ****, hidin' in your shield. Also uses it for DI mix-ups during combos. I recall somethin' like magnet -> wavedash -> D-air spike from Town Hall's moving platform that wouldn't of worked if they didn't DI for U-air.

But yeah, magnet needs some serious research done with it in the lab. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a DI trap that leads one magnet to either a killl confirm or another magnet, with or without some platform waveland shenanigans.
