Project M Discussion Thread

I find it to be pretty weird how VGBootCamp and maybe ClashTournaments too have a whole loser bracket and they are still able to win the tournament. I mean, can't you just lose on purpose to get to the loser part of the tournament and then beat everyone who lost?

Anyone coming from the Loser's Bracket has to beat the opponent in Grand Finals for not one, but two full sets. Matches between the best of the best players can go either way, so it's risky to "sandbag" into Losers... unless you're only aiming for second place lol.

A Losers Bracket shouldn't be treated as an easy way to Grand Finals, as it ain't. It's a safety net to prevent top players from gettin' knocked outta the tournament just because they were really off their game one set/they got matched with another top player early in the bracket. Loser's Brackets make tournament results more consistent with entrants' levels of skill.

Ahhh I didnt know about that, so yeah that makes sense.
So if you get 2nd place, you don't get any price, right? Cause that would still make it kinda unfair.

Givin' all the prize money solely to 1st is the definition of unfair. The whole point of a loser's bracket is so that top players get a second chance at the pot lol.

Typically 1st through 3rd placings get more than their venue fee as winnings. Dependin' on the tournament size and who's runnin' it, lower places may get their entry fee back; typically for 4th, and again, dependin' on some things, possibly all the way down to 8th. Super-sized sponsor tourneys like EVO might have consolation prizes down to 16th or even 32nd place 'n such, not that I personally recall any examples.

So, you could drop to losers brackets on purpose and go for the 2nd place, including a nice price? (And maybe even first?)

Again, Loser's Bracket is a safety net. Ya don't just throw it away like that; nor would it serve a purpose to do so anyways. Why throw away an easy win against a worse player, only to get knocked out of Loser's Bracket and thus the whole tournament by a top player who was also in Loser's? Top players of the highest level win back 'n forth with each other, the "better" player can end up in Loser's, and there will always be multiple top players in Loser's. Top players can easily get matched with each other long before Finals of any sort lol. A Loser's Bracket is just as dangerous as Winner's Bracket in terms of who you face off against; technically even more dangerous since if you're in Loser's, one more loss means you're done for that tourney.

If aiming for first place is unrealistic for a player, aiming for second is just as unlikely, regardless of what bracket they're in.

Awesome, Ivysaur is one of the first characters I wanna try in P:M :D
Looks pretty good. Though you can also use Mario's FLUDD to blow Jiggly's who're resting off-stage >_> lol

Also, check out this vid:

What's a stitch face?

Do all the different faces on those things peach throws have different effects?
If so: What kind of effects?

WHY DOES N-AIR BEAT PROJECTILES ;_;

You can also use Mario's FLUDD to blow Jiggly's who're resting off-stage

Rest is an absolutely terrible move in vBrawl, so that would literally never happen since in P:M Mario gets back his actually-useful Melee Down-B.

amazed fludd could be so useful in any situation regardless

Hax incarnate (not the player).
Yes.
Just differing knockback 'n damage.

I know that there's a lot of theorizing- "A supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained"...Yeah, the right term...-on Isai being unbeatable, or 'too good', but at the same time, credit has to be given to players like m2k, who outside of jokes, 'd body him in Melee by this point.

But I've been thinking for a while now, what if Isai picked up Ike in P:M? I get the feeling that if Isai got into practice. and had a greater reason to win. that he'd become- quite literally, near unbeatable. I just looked at what my Ike was capable of with QD cancelling and such (when I'm not online), and now I'm imagining Isai wave cancelling quickdraw as his primary form of movement, combined with dash dancing, QD grabbing, and in general the pressure of fighting Isai...

It'd be like a faster, more brutal version of his Falcon, with better mind games, and 64 style technology. But then Ike'd suddenly be OP and nerfed through the ground...

I have hours of reading for strats that he'd probably develop, so, now that I think about it, when I get home Imma go into the lab with Ike, if I can get the Isai mindset right, and my wrist stops complaining from the tech skill, I might be going to EVO yet.

Not sure if anyone's brought this up yet, but Mr R's Lucario looks legit, might be top level if he keeps improving.

I'm significantly better then you've ever given me credit for, we've played two sets. Plus I'm pretty sure we can both agree that they weren't legit. It's almost like you judge my skill level more off of character then any experience, plus I have pages of johns, but whatever, that never gets any point across. End line is, m2k looks like a scrub on his worse days too.
