Pokemon X/Y

Then again, squid, you can go all day with your body slam... But you'll never have type advantage when it comes to normal moves as opposed to avalanche. You could always hit something hard. And from your scenario,
If sunflora would switch in it would get almost killed by super effective avalanche wouldn't it?
Storm, I don't think you know what we're talking about. Amaura, a new Ice type, has an ability called "Refrigerate" that changes normal-type moves into ice-type moves while "boosting their power", whatever that means.

The scenarios I posted were to be interpreted separately.

... But that wouldn't make sense since Rapid Spin is already useful.
Nothing is immune to an ice-type Rapid Spin~

If Refrigerate only boosts Normal-type moves, that's dumb. And also makes Return more useful. In the case it doesn't, you can't ignore that 18 BP. It'l be important t' secure a KO on a specific Poke with a specific EV spread, guaranteed. The only question is, will that Poke be a threat in Amaura's tier and thus make my situational argument at all viable?

Return versus Avalanche in this scenario is akin to Rock Slide versus Stone Edge. The extra power WILL be work the downside in certain situations. It's only a matter of whether or not said situations will crop up often.

It's mostly the priority that bothers me. And the fact that it sometimes has 60 base power.

Stone Edge doesn't have negative priority and hits at full power 100% of the time. The argument between it and Rock Slide is trading power for accuracy (and technically PP). With Avalanche and Body Slam/Return/Double Edge, it's not a matter of accuracy at all.

It would also make Fake Out uncountable by switching to Ghosts, plus all normal status attacks would hit Ghosts.

Also, that means Splash could be an Ice Type Move

Non-immune Fake Out would be amazing in Doubles.

Also, that means Splash could be an Ice Type Move

Splash would be even cooler...

Which is t' say, Amaura would be Mega Charizard's best friend if it learned Rapid Spin. Shame it's almost guaranteed not to lol. inb4 ice-type mega donphan @ refrigerate

... I really wish OU + Rocks banned was a legitimate thing.

Negative priority rather than a lack of priority is 99% irrelevant on a retardedly slow tank with a large Attack stat... and I'm predictin' Amaura t' be tank-ish in stats. Although it's Attack may or may not be huge, we'll have t' wait and see what it's evolution looks like. If it gets revealed prior to release.

My comparison was contrasting the reliability vs. consistency argument for both move comparisons. Accuracy indeed has nothin' to do with my point.

The priority issue is still a problem, though I admit it's not a huge problem on a slow, bulky Pokemon. Which, as you said, Amaura looks like. It would be more of less of a problem depending on the exact speed stat. If it had, say, base 65 speed, while still slow, it would still be able to outrun quite a few defensive Pokemon, and would not like being outsped by them while trying to attack. If it had like base 40 speed, then you're right, it would barely be a problem.

I'm really just doubting that the 18% power boost would be worth it over Return. I suppose Avalanche might be good for countering very specific sweepers, since a lot of sweepers run only attacking moves anyway, and getting them to switch out would be useful even if Avalanche hit for a lower power. But unless said sweepers were common and very threatening, the power consistency (I guess that's a better word than reliability) of Return (or boosted Body Slam) would be more useful almost every time.

I agree that Smogon should at least have Avalanche listed on certain Pokemon, like Beartic. srsly guys. They don't even list it in "other options" ._.

It'l be worth it in certain situations. As I previously stated, it's only a matter of how often said circumstances will occur.

holy karp beartic is rly slow

And with that, the Tyrunt line is now my favorite.

I guess Aurorus could still grow on me but right now I much prefer Tyrantrum.

I don't think either one is version exclusive, from what we know right now, at least. As of right now, the version exclusives are as follows:

X:
-Clauncher
-Swirlix
-Xerneas (?)
-Mega Mewtwo X

Y:
-Skrelp
-Spritzee
-Yveltal (?)
-Mega Mewtwo Y

Feel free to Google them if you don't know what they look like. I have to leave for college in a minute so I don't have time to arrange pictures and/or links.

First one looks boss. When I was a little kid I used to love dinosaurs, but after a while it's calmed down.

I still have this tiny part of myself nagging to catch the red one though. Are these normal evolutions or Mega evos?

They're normal evos. The Kalos Pokemon won't get Mega Evos. I'm also noticing a lack of any Gen V mega evos at the moment, I wonder why that is.

gen 6 is lookin 2 be vry punny

Aurorus is alright, I s'pose. Doesn't appeal t' my tastes in aesthetics at all though. Tyrantrum looks like Groudon birthed a T-Rex, and I'm OK with this. Think I'll add Tyrantrum to my team over Noivern.

I would much prefer Mega Tyranitar

Ya want more pseudo-legendary Mega evolutions? Are you mad?!?!

... Well, I'm certainly mad.

Wiichat's a happy place; madness is merry.

Speakin' of cats, think I'll use a female Meowstic on my second playthrough (it is a cat, after all...). Not usin' the male 'cause **** support movepools.
