Official Baseball Talk

that was so stupid. You have basesloaded, you bring in a power hitter. Even if hes slumping, he could have been walked, a basehit would win the game. You dont "save" him for later. If the Yanks were playing, and cairo was up bottom 9 basesloaded 2 outs, 5-4, torre would pinch hit A-rod, not save him for later. I would be furious if i was pujols. I would lose a lot of respect for La Russa if i was pujols espcially because he is his manager.

To the other post, Yanks arent out yet!!!! Yanks are going to have a fantastic 2nd half!!

So Ichiro wins the All-Star game MVP, great player. And the American League wins yet again. When was the last time the NL won, 1996?

Didn't the NL win like 20 in a row at one point?

Longest winning streak prior to this was the NL winning 11 (1972 - 1982) in a row. Simple answer: nope.

And yet the National League still leads 40-36...
It is actully 41-35, NL leads. There have been two ties, one in 1961 and the other in 2002. Shall we talk about interleague records which actually count in regular season standings? I think those are crap as well. It adds to the unbalanced schedule that the league already considers normal.

The darn All Star game is an exhibition game. If you ask me, it should NOT determine the home-field advantage in the World Series. Exhibition games should have NO bearing on the regular season or the playoffs.

Wikipedia says 40-36 with two ties so one of us is a game off. Don't get me started on regular season games. The NL was very dominate for a while but the AL beat the NL again this year in regular games played.

I don't think home field advantage is that big anymore. The Cardinals showed they didn't need home field advantage last year.

should be best record, with all-star game as tie-breaker.

Wikipedia is a terrible source, any idiot can edit it. Personally, I used MLB.com and got the answer straight from the horse's mouth.

Tying ANYTHING to an exhibition game is a mistake. It was a knee-jerk reaction to ending the 2002 game in a tie, in Bud's own home field. Who cares if it is a tie? It is an exhibition game! Oh well, Bud stopped answering my calls, I guess he is not going to change his mind.

As for interleague, I would hardly call the NL 'winning' 97, 99, 02 and 03 as dominant for a long time. It was spaced out quite a bit. Interleague needs to go as well. Bring back the balanced schedule and get rid of all the crap Selig ideas.

Too bad MLB.com can't count. They have the same statistics as wikipedia but they mis-counted it.

They still try. It's not like it's a goof-off game like it was some years ago when Larry Walker changed batting sides. Pitchers still give their best stuff and batters still try to produce runs. One of the only differences is not plowing over the catcher and not diving if it could turn into an injury.

I was talking about the 2002-2004 era but I forgot they lost by 1 in 2004. I don't think getting rid of interleague would make it that much more balanced. If they added 2 more teams to the AL and made four divisions in each league like the NFL does it would be balanced but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I can't believe The Jays are doing this good with all the injury's they've had three starting pitchers hurt. B.J. is gone for season. Lyle Overbay, Gregg Zaun, Troy Glaus, Brandon League, Reed Johnson! And the Yankees still can't get past them.
