Question/problem I am having maybe you can help me please?

I have added someone to my Wii and they have added me to their wii but we still cannot send messages. Her address is grayed out (if you will) and she says that mine is gray and she cannot use it on her console either. we have added each other to the address books. Is there something else that needs to be done?
