Wii more than one connector - Smarty Pants

Hi I am able to use all 4 controllers on games like tennis, golf, baseball etc., however today my daughter rented a game she wants to play (Smarty Pants) and can only get one connector to recognize! If you want multiple players it keeps telling that you need more than one controller however when you press the button on the controller they just blink and go off! any help will be much appreciated. Sorry I tried to search and did not find any answers to I started a new post. I will get the hang of this forum soon as I only joined today.

try syncing with the red button

on the SD card slot on the wii and the red button under the batter cover thing.
press the red buttons at the same time when it asks you to connect another controller. tell me if it works or not

When in the game, press the HOME button on the connected wiimote. Then click on controllers.

Now press 1 + 2 on each controller and wait for them to connect.
