Verizon DSL MODEM-Will it work with Lan Adapter?

I have Verizon DSL and have a dsl MODEM, not a router. Will it work with the Lan Adapter? I'm thinking of getting the datel lan adapter at my local gamestop or ebgames later on today. Also, as I understand it, I simply plug the ethernet cable that ordinarily is plugged into my lan port on the back of my computer into the Lan adapter, then I plug the lan adapter into the Wii's usb port. My DSL modem doesn't have to have a cable from the lan adapter plugged into it does it? What I mean is, only one cable is involved right because my dsl modem doesnt have any other free inputs. Someone help me so I don't waste a trip to the mall, thanks!
