Because it's not pollitically correct to blame it on stupid humans :)?
I dont really believe we should really waste time pointing fingers at one another, it's childish, and yet people did it after WW1 and blamed Germany for WW1, you see the people in charge of the world are childish when you really think about it. And us casual humans are just as or maybe even more clever than they're.

so, do we keep the bag for the rest of eternity?

we are the ones who will most likely take over the world eventually. since video games are actually improving reaction time and all that good stuff. but they think its just killing us and everyone around us. stupid people

Yeah, you're COMPLETLY normal and sane darkprinny; just keep telling yourself that.:)

I'm a democrat, but I there's no way I'm voting for Hillary, or Liberman if he runs.

Both are really just wannabe republicans and neither seem to like videogames, especially the Grand Theft Auto series, which I enjoyed a lot, not because of the violence (which you have somewhat of a choice to commit) but because it's so expansive and really brings you back to whatever time the game is set in; my favorite is San Andreas because I want to move to California so bad and get into game design.

^Wow, that guy's off topic^

nate you can't exactly say this doesn't have an influence on children playing it even though they're used to violence

i can't remember where but two kids aged about 11-14 took they're dads air rifle/ .22 calibre rifle out to some bushes near the freeway and started shooting at cars, causing a serious crash, they were both put in a juvenile hall and when they turned 18 they were put in prison for manslaughter

in related case after a rise in children doing something, can't quite remember what, the game "manhunt" was banned here in the uk if you already had it you were okay, if you didn't and you wanted it you would need to buy it off someone who didn't want it anymore or off of a dodgy stall, no game's retailers would sell it

Oh, I wasn't trying to say that games like GTA couldn't influence kids. I actually appreciate the ESRB for rating games so that children under 17 can't get games that are wrought with violence, language, suggestive themes, etc.
These things can really shorten a childhood.

Most of the time, I think videogames are overly violent. However, there are great movies and books that also tell of murder, like the Godfather movies; some of the best stories ever, but when I have a kid, they won't see that until they are mature.

I also hate, hate, HATE games that show women as nothing but a sexual object. They are proportioned completly unrealisticly and talk suggestivly and I must question the intelligence of people who find them attractive. It's just like people who like porn; they generally don't have respect for women and/or they don't think they could ever get a girlfriend, so they watch these girls and don't even ask themselves "would I like to see my mother/sister/friend take off their clothes for strangers?"
Every single person who does sexual acts for an audiance is someone else's mother, father, brother, sister, or friend and they have feelings. They desire attention so bad, they feel they can only achieve it by taking off their clothes. I don't even want to think about the number of underage girls pictured suggestivly on the internet, or worse, the girls who are being kept hostage by men so they can send pictures to other pervs and get some sick satifaction.

The videogames, TV shows, movies, and internet sites that degrade women have no sympathy nor attention from me because they only contribute to the women abused in any number of ways you can think up every single day of the year, all over the world.

I'm sorry, that may have been a bit off topic, but it needed to be said. Those kids you talked about who took their father's gun were obviously neglected and didn't know right from wrong. If it hadn't been a videogame, it would have been a movie or TV series that triggered their violence, so it's really up to the parent to set limits and also, this is a gun control issue as well; I won't even start on why I think guns need to be removed, but if the gun was so accessable, then that father should have been put in jail, too.

Oh, and about that manhunt case, which I vaguely remember, I'm glad it was banned. I believe you could do pretty hideous things and since that was the whole point of the game, it should never have gotten on to market, kind of like the Postal series.

The reason I don't like politicans going after games is because they never, that I've seen, shined light on the great games, like any of the Mario or Zelda games, and yet they don't give a darn about what kids can see real people doing on cable TV or the internet. Videogames are about fun and mainly, atleast for me, escapeism. I'm tired of teachers on my back at school, so I come home and play games like Halo or GTA so I can take my anger out on polygonal people, or I practice the guitar and play it hard to be able to relax, so I don't go off on a teacher in a verbal way; I don't do physical violence, period!

OK, I'm done.:D

I'll be the first to admit that I hate censorship, but I'd grudgingly say that in some cases it may be a good thing (although I would agree with scrapping the 18 age certificate). But I don't agree with banning things outright. Politicians and journalists, most of whom have probably never even played a video game in their lives, want to ban them simply because they can't understand them. The problem is that video games are an easier answer to a difficult question. Rather than having to deal with its problems, society just invents another scapegoat, and this time it's video games.

Too many times I've read articles in the papers (or seen on the news) about some game supposedly "influencing" someone to go out and kill people, for example the Manhunt case. What about the millions who bought Manhunt and didn't go out and kill people? Should I be denied the chance to buy the game because one kid said the video game made him do it? Maybe Manhunt is overly gratuitous- but it does have an 18 certificate, which means that it has adult content and is not recommended for use by children. I should add Manhunt wasn't banned in the UK, though a lot of shops refuse to stock it anymore, even though the police working on the case denied it was the cause of the murder.

Over a million people die each year in car crashes, so how come cars haven't been outlawed? Blaming video games is easy, because they're generally only associated with under 35s, and most politicians and newspaper editors are older than that.

Nicely said there NapalmBrain! I agree fully, the case that millions of people dying in car crashed, and yet no pollitician puts much thought into those cases, so they instead find something very easy to put the blame on cases in which a minor commits homicide.
