Thread of Smash

Before we continue, I'm just going to point out that I don't actually believe that Smash shouldn't be considered a fighter.

That being said, I don't think that Sumo Wrestling is a valid argument to support your claim. Name me another fighting game that doesn't have the goal of reducing your opponent's life to 0. And I could be wrong, but I don't think Marvel or Blazblue are based off of real fighting sports.
What I meant by different inputs can be ignored, because I forgot about 3D fighters such as Tekken and Soul Calibur.

Objectives of fighters are only based off of real fighting. A Knock Out is only one objective out of many. In UFC you can win by points, submission, and knockout. Who wins when the timer runs out in MvC and other fighters? That in its self is another winning objective.

If you don't consider Sumo Wrestling, Amateur Wrestling, Fencing, Kendo, Judo, among others actual Fighting Sports because you can win by Knock Out is absurd.

When you define Fighting/Combat Sport, Smash falls right in the category of Fighter.

Not really. If the creator of Pokemon said that Pokemon wasn't an RPG, Pokemon would still be an RPG. Smash is much more subjective in its classification, but the point still stands.

No point in arguing over this. If the creator of Smash says it isn't a fighter, then I guess it isn't a fighter.
He never said it wasn't a fighter.
He just didn't intend it to be as competitive as it is now.

Plus the idea of a Battle Royal only exists if there are more than 2 players. So if you stick to One-on-One action you have a Fighter. However if it's a Free-for-All or a Team Battle it falls under the definition of a Battle Royal. So in this way Smash can be both.

Fighting Sport: A combat sport, or fighting sport, is a competitive contact sport with one-on-one combat.

Battle Royal: Battle royal (plural battles royal) traditionally refers to a fight involving three or more combatants that is fought until only one fighter remains standing.

Smash under Single Tournament Rules is indeed a Fighter Game and falls under ever definition of it.

If it's a Team Battle it falls under the definition of a Battle Royal.

Yet competitive Teams is still just as much playin' a fighting game as Singles is. Surely there's some sort of martial arts competition out there, still in practice or not, that included more than two participants?

Not to say a battle between more than 2 combatants isn't competitive because it obviously is, but just by definition Team Battles fall under Battle Royal. Though I would say Team battles are half and half leaning close to Fighting but it still is lumped with Battles Royal.

Video of me playing a Melee-ish Roy in Project M. Roy Hype still lingers.

Picture is worth a thousands words, a video is worth a thousand pictures.

[strike]THAT'S NOT A PICTURE[/strike]

Still don't fail to impress, MR. Can't wait to play against you when Roy isn't just a PSA.

... How'd you record the video with such good quality though? Did you convert replay data into a video format? ... Is that even possible?
