Thread of Smash

So, after another disappointing day of Smash, it is very likely that I'm going to stop playing Smash competitively. The more I invest in trying to learn it to play it at a higher level, the less fun I have. And I don't want Smash Brothers to not be fun. So I think I'll be sticking to AE and Marvel.

Don't give up man.
I know Pillaring and Waveshining are hard to counter and I still need to learn how to counter it but when you successfully counter (not Roy's Down B) them, it is satisfying. If you can get by their gimmicks then you will be in for a real battle.

If you can master this game, then you can master any game.
Keep that in mind. The payoff is worth it IMO.

This is probably the hardest game to master.
1. It's been around for over a decade
2. The technical skill and knowledge are higher than most games.
3. The best of the best are either robots, have incredible reflexes, or are the best natural video gamers ever.

I've given up on arguing with people that don't think it's a fighting game. I disagree, but they're not necessarily wrong. A bit annoyed when they act like it's a bad thing. Don't remember if I've seen anybody actually do that tho. You better not be, J. >:/

Sorry, busy with actual fighting games.

How the **** are they not wrong? Even as a stupid technicality which is blatantly wrong but can't be blatantly called as such?

One argument is that a lot of fighters come in every shape and size. There are always exceptions. Smash is just a unique fighter. A unique fighter with tons more tech skill.

Smash has a different system for inputs and a different win condition. Those are about the only arguments I know of.
What are fighting games based off of?
REAL FIGHTING
Boxing, Wrestling, UFC, Martial Arts, Sumo Wrestling, maybe even Sword Dueling and other such things.
Win conditions are all different in all of these yet they are all fighting. The Big Fight has always been something to culture, to put will against will.

If Fighting Games are just imitating REAL Fighting Sports then how do Fighting Games imitate fatigue?
In Boxing and UFC type of games (what you consider a Fighter: Street Fighter and such), fatigue is imitated using Health Bars. After your Health Bar goes you knock them out or kill them.

In Sumo Wrestling the objective is to knock your opponent out of the ring. The more tired your opponent is the easier it is to push him out. So how would you represent fatigue in a game this? Well with Percents. The higher percent you are, the easier it is to knock you out.

So what is a Fighter? It is simply a game based on Real Fighting Sports and even in them win conditions vary. UFC alone has many different win conditions other than Knock Out.
Now what do you mean 'Different System for Imputs'?

Was gonna bring Sumo Wrastlin' int' this, but you beat me to it (likely in a better way than I would've typed out as well). Well said.

Can't think of a valid argument which proves them wrong...

And they can't think of a single damn argument that isn't born of bein' a biased imbecile.
