I"m sitting at the first screen for choosing match style online. Never done a friend battle so if I need to do something special let me know. It says under friend roster wario2ooo but it says you arent connected and that I have 0 of 0 friends online.

Wario has to add you, then it will say "0 of 1 friends" or "1 of 1 friends". Once it says connected in green, go to battle friends. Then series, setup the default setting for the tournament. (Level 5 difficulty, 3 matches, and 3 minutes). Choose a stadium, then click on invite a friend. Click on wario. Then you will get a screen that says "waiting for opponent". Then wario when get an invite and accept then the two of you battle. Simple as that.

I won the first game. The second game wario won in sudden death. The third game my goalie had water spiked with laxatives that cause drowsiness and he failed to block anything at all and I lost again.
