World Kindness Day hardly needs an explanation; it's a day to give the utmost kindness to each and every person you know and meet, to be more kind than usual (whether you're usually Krabby or not). Unfortunately, the entire world doesn't officially recognize this day... =/ In due time, perhaps. Anywho, the many countries that do promote World Kindness Day may have a countrywide sort of celebration, like Singapore's country-wide giving away free flowers back in 2009. There really isn't any way I wouldn't give this day my holiday pick of the day; if we can't have peace, can't we at least have some kindness and respect for each other? =/


Remembrance Sunday is held only in the UK, as an additional day to honor those who are also commemorated on the recently mentioned Armistice Day. Simple as that.


Any of you who know what an AK is outside of news on terrorism and shooting games know it's actual Russian name, the Avtomat Kalashnikova. On this very day, construction of the Kalash model 47 was finished (taken from the year it was finished, 1947). An age-old assault rifle that's rugged, efficient, and deadly enough to still be used 60 years later AND remain in production certainly says something; the AK 47 is to Russia as the Panzer tank is to Germany. Power and function to match any other rifle, while it's simplicity allows any rookie solider to pick one up and spray 'n pray (the AK was designed specifically for this hip fire strategy, actually) without cannibalizing that power at all. That same simplicity of it's parts and design gives it it's notorious durability and adaptability to perform under any situation. Dragged it through mud and sand? It still works. Dropped it in the water or lugging it through wet terrain like a jungle? Shrugs it off with ease. All this brilliant craftsmanship takes the form of it's simplicity and no expensive parts, which also means it's a very cheap gun for it's effectiveness. As you should be able to see, there's many good reasons terrorists use this as their automatic death dealer of choice.


Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was a famous writer of many categories and venues. A poet, a novelist, an essayist, and all the same, incredibly talented. There's a chance you might of heard of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, or Treasure Island... Yeah, he wrote 'em. Many famous authors like Nobel Prize-winning Hemingway admired or even drew inspiration from Stevenson's works, which certainly says something. Stevenson was a celebrity during his life time, but like many authors and artists, his notoriety diminished after his death and he was forgotten for some time, 'till people started re-evaluating 'em and such. Nowadays, his fame and respect have certainly been restored to the fullest.


Caryn Elaine Johnson, better known as Whoopi Goldberg, is certainly what I'd call a household celebrity name; in a good way. Most people know her as a hilarious comedian, but she's one hell of an actor too. To put that into perspective, her first appearance on film instantly won her a golden globe right off the bat. That takes some serious ****ing talent. :lol: Whoopi's got some good morals about her too and has played a part in many a campaign for equal rights and such, something you rarely find a rich actor/actress doing and meaning it.


Dubai's Gulf News (a certainly respected newspaper) claims that World Kindness Day is "a day that encourages individuals to overlook boundaries, race and religion". I wish that were the truth... =/ Those who embrace illogical prejudices aren't going to change their ignorant views for a day just because a holiday says so. If it was that simple, haters wouldn't be hatin' so much in modern day life.

The act of pickling has been around since ye olde times of up to four thousand years ago; back then known as brining or corning. While it was originally used for preserving foods, it did also bring an appealing additional flavor to meats. Nowadays, anything we eat pickled is because we enjoy that flavor; and thus comes Pickle Day. In particular the day refers to the pickled cucumber, but grab whatever favorite pickled delectable you prefer today, be it pickled onions or pickled pig's feet.


Loosen Up, Lighten Up Day should have more than a day. Perhaps a weekend... a whole week. A month. An entire year. Every year. I know from experience that life is all the better when you can chill out and relax, no matter the grade of the situation. Without a doubt, my holiday pick of the day. Loosen up and enjoy life, my brothers!
National Girls Day is-- GTFO!
A day of promoting celebration for the categorization of humans shall not be given the lime light in my thread. I've been through this before.


World Diabetes Day is obviously a day of awareness about diabetes; America sure could use it. ¬_¬


Sickness, murder, war, or garbage parents in general leave plenty of children orphaned. World Orphans Day hopes to spread awareness for this. Call me a heartless fool, but funds need to go to getting countries on their feet and preventing the causes of orphaning (aside from bad parenting; nothing cures that). We can be constantly struggling to save millions of orphans world wide, or we can dwarf that number to something more manageable while also getting countries to function well independently. Do that, and orphans and everyone else wins... Too bad it really ain't that simple or easy.


Children's Day is celebrated by countless countries worldwide, the dates often depending on the country. In India's case, the day is chosen in commemoration of Jawaharlal Nehru's birthday, India's first prime minister and successor to Ghandi. And no, this isn't just a random politician pride birthday; Nehru was a huge advocate for many things children related, proper education in particular. Celebrations often include dancing, parades, the usual. Schools often have a less regiment day as well and more fun for the youngin's. Since one badly raised child can in turn have a hundred badly raised children as the family tree expands, there's no denying children are indeed the future.


Claude Monet was one of the most important French artists of all time, since it was he himself who started the all-so important impressionist painting movement with a single picture; the movement's name comes from the picture's title (Impression - soleil levant [sunrise]) as homage. Artists are hardly household names since fine art is often above the heads of common folk, but if there are such painter names, Claude Monet is among them... That, and he had an epic beard.


I've still yet to know someone I'd consider more laid back (... and lazy) than myself.
