The light goes off when you turn the Wii completely off (red light). The blue light will stay on when you put it on what I guess could be described as a standby/off mode (yellow light).

why does everyone want the blue light on? whats the big deal if its on or off? i dont understand it.
granted ok, it does look kinda cool but really, is it that important that its always gotta stay on?
