the battery pack could be failing as my coverter has had this happen remove the cable for a while then stat again this worked for me

Say it with me....EXTENDED WARRANTY.

Xbox 360s are notorious for getting the red ring of death around the power button. Mine has been replaced once with a refurbished unit. I haven't really had any problems since. The extended warranty is money well spent.
