Even if you do plan on getting VC games, as long as you don't get lots of games you'll still be fine. 512 MB is quite a bit, but you will need a card if you plan on using the photo channel.

We dont know what the size will be of other Wii channels really, a Browser these days go from anywhere from 4-20MB.
