PROPER gaint swing

So I was listening to this song when I noticed the video's name. I heard this song while fighting the Plesioth in the demo, but Plesioths are Plesioths.

I'm just curious - are monsters categorized by type or something else in this game? What does Lagiacrus stand for?
Answer without spoiling me. If you decide to answer at all, that is.

It's not lagi's theme, it's more of the theme for the area. If you fought the lagi in a quest that sets him in the flooded forest, you'd get a different theme. Most monsters use the theme based on area. Monsters are categorized according to certain traits though.

Then why is it called Lagiacrus's theme?

And which traits categorize them? I'm guessing Lagiacrus are for the swimming ability?

Many monster hunter tracks are custom named before the localized names are found out during the period that they're japanese exclusive.

For the second question, it's easier to link: http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Leviathan

So a Plesioth would be considered part of the Lagiacrus, correct? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Or are Lagiacrus one monster and Plesioth another?

And are there any non-third gen monsters that appear in MH3U?

EDIT: Ninja'd twice, not surprised. 'Karp's link was more a bit explanatory, as I thought Plesioths were part of the Lagiacrus for having the same theme.

lagi isn't a monster-type. However, lagi fits into the Leviathan class.
Why didn't you tell me Lagiacrus and Plesioths were two different monsters? I thought Lagiacrus was a type and Plesioths were part of that type.

Wyverns that inhabit the Tundra. Gigginox live in darkness and thus have degraded vision; they detect prey via body heat, then attack with poison. When excited, their color changes and parts of their body harden. Extremely fertile, laying innumerable eggs.
hahahahahaha

I thought you were referring to the Plesioth when I asked about Lagiacrus.
