Guitar Hero: World Tour Guitar

I bought a used Guitar from Gamestop about six months ago, and its worked great ever since. But now recently the "up strum" is not working. I use it left-handed, so I can "down strum" with no problem, but no right hander can use the guitar any longer. Is there a way to open up the guitar and clean the contacts on the strum bar so it works better?
