General Forum Suggestions

Why the heck does that matter?

People normally assume people who have been on a subject based forum for a long time they're knowledgeable. They'll obviously go for members with high reputation and high post count + older join date.

All of those factors (post count, join date, reputation) have nothing to do with a person's knowledge on any subject, in any forum. Some people just hope that others will look up to them based on those points.

I don't decide on how the mind works. People tend to seek those people out.

That is no fair that my points don't go up because I help new people. A lot of people who give me rep are new people and that doesn't make my rep go up.

^I've got to agree.

I'm not quite sure as to why a new member's opinion does not matter. As long as they aren't giving rep to everyone [surely a similar blockade could be used as replacement] then I don't see the problem.

Which is another reason why i dislike Rep bars. It keeps newer members from counting as much when people asking the questions don't normally listen. There are many, many times that i see a newbie post an answer and then an older member post the exact same answer when the response would be "Thanks older more reputable member", instead of thanking the newer member.

I help people connecting their routers and only the new people need help. When they give rep it should count.

Urgh
I know of a forum where in nearly every other post its someboody sayin "give me rep" or "reped you"
Im not a member of said forum but its where I got a lot of my vidlinks from

Mind you ive had one or two that siad in the rep bit "I reped you rep me back"
Meh post counts need to be gone as dose rep

Well I'm not one of them DP, but you will find that there are some users who are purely posting for post count and reputation, so if you take them away, you possibly take away members too. I'm on here for questions and answers and to try and help people, not for rep.

New members tend to get caught up in rep because they are either curious about the green blocks or they see people asking for rep. And there is a few people who post on here in the hopes of gaining more rep, or they rep you and ask for it back.

I don't understand why rep really matters to so many people. It doesn't make any member better, you don't win a prize and it doesn't change who you are as a member. You can still be a good member and not get rep, or you could be a bad member and get it for the sole purpose of being bad (i.e being rude, "funny"). It is abused on here too much, and the only good thing about it is that you don't get a prize for having a lot of rep. If that was the case it would be abused even more.

So yes rep does need to go, but if it doesn't people really should not worry about it so much and constantly seek it. What it shows for the most part is that people with a lot of rep are helpful, mature and active/good members around the board, members that people can seek for help. New members do often have great posts that are intelligent, but if they are new other new members won't exactly go to them for advice or help. It doesn't hurt helping fellow new members around, but they need to be active around the forum and continually help out others to really be recognized.

But Cpt. McCloud's point about rep wasn't really his main focus.
There are big matters that need to be taken care of first, like adding staff and putting up different things around the site. And when I said I agreed with him, thats mainly what I agreed about.

Correct, I described rep more but there is simpler things which are more important that I requested.

The site needs staff as in the last few days we have had several spammers and advertisers that have went un noticed for a while. We only have staff from the American region with them all being American/Canadian apart from i0n who doesn't really do the modding and acts as more of a co-ordinator. We need European moderators or at least any moderators.

More site features, simply put we have been down graded but increased advertisements and I would like us to evolve and not down grade. Firstly we have the review feature in its final stages in testing but I would like more such as news. The site news was a high light for us all before it was took down. We don't need professionals requesting payment we just need some volunteers from the site that would gladly contribute for free.
