Historical fact: Not really
The Boston Tea Party was actually an attempt by extreme tea fanatics to turn the oceans into tea because they wanted to share the glory of free tea with the rest of the world. However the political activists of the time used it as an excuse to separate from England.

Speakin' of twistin' words...

People chucked the tea 'cause tea bloody sucks. It's terrible in comparison t' coffee in modern times, can ya imagine how inferior it was t' coffee back in the day?

Can't see it
Coffee is for those people who can't appreciate the various pallets of taste in tea.

Tea is for the soul

There are 253 distinct types of bitterness in coffee. But to pick out each one requires total concentration and the use of all the senses. There is no need for the interference of adding sugar, milk, or any other additives that ruin the magic of a cup. Can your tea say the same regarding this?

Absolutely tea not only can be bitter but it also can be sweet, rich, sour, spicy, and combinations of them. If you can get 253 types of bitterness from one type of bean, then I am certain you can get much more flavors out of all the herbs that are infused in tea.

I am talking about the qualitive and quantitive aspects of bitter only. The defining trait of coffee. Tea lacks this greatly. Oh, there's sweet, mild, and all that cal available as well for coffee. But that's breaking the main point of it and makes it as superficial as tea if you focus on that. Coffee has a powerful defining trait that is not to be broken.
