to anyone experiencing crashing/locking up WIIs, just ensure that nothing is voering the air vents. Lock ups are a common results of overheating processors and is true of all computer systems 
Failing that sounds like theres some bad firmware going around or somthing
Touch wood, I havn't had any problems with my WII yet
