I'm thinking that something was just over looked in the first update for wiiware, and they had to send out a new update to correct the over look.

when I heard about the second update, I went to update, but it told me that the console was up to date. When did the second update come out?

came out yesterday i believe, well thats when i noticed it was there

Depending on what time you updated at you may have gotten both updates together.
