ZeLdA4LiFe said:The Fourth Goddess and The Tetraforce
Legend in the lands of Hyrule tells of the Triforce, and how it governs not only the power of the three ancient Goddesses (Din, Nayru and Farore), but the gate to the realm to which they departed, after forming the cosmos and all that is in them.
However, other legends tell of another Goddess, lost to the mists of Time. The legends tell not her role in the birth of the cosmos, or even if she held one, but there are those who believe that even with the Triforce, one cannot hold complete power. It is said that only by claiming the power of the Goddess of Time can a new God be born.
Legends have long held that only three Goddesses create the world, and that when in balance, their powers were unstoppable. These same legends tell of the Triforce, and its three facets: Strength of Body, Strength of Mind, and Strength of Spirit -- Power, Wisdom, and Courage.
However, since those very same legends tell of the birth of the cosmos, it doesn’t speak much of this “Lost Goddess.” Ever since then, there have been clues given out showing of this hidden goddess or maybe clues given showing that she had a Triforce piece as well.
There have been clues that have been out since the first Zelda game . There have been symbols, designs on people’s clothes, things hanging from walls, even directly chiseled into the wall of the Spirit Temple. These pictures are of eyes, staring deeply, maybe signifying that there is more that meets the eye.
The biggest clue of the fourth goddesses existence, is on Majora’s Mask. When Link first receives the Ocarina of Time, Zelda speaks to him through a memory. She specifically states that the Goddess of Time is watching over you. That is a great clue, because she says it directly. Another great clue is the eye symbolism spoken about above. Anytime you see the eye, it has something to do with time. Like the Spirit Temple, for an example. In order to be able to defeat the Spirit Temple you have to time travel as a kid and then adult to beat it. There is a room in the spirit temple where a poster, of what looks a lot like Vaati, is on the wall with an eye. Also, the Gossip Stones have the eye on them, what do they do when you hit them? They tell you the time. The Mask of Truth has the eye on it. This mask allowed you to see things you are not normally able to see. This suggests that the Goddess of Time can talk directly to people’s minds, thus talk telepathically. When wearing the Mask of Truth, the Gossip Stone’s quote: “It’s one eyed gaze pierces into your mind.” So using the mask you can talk telepathically.
Now the Tetraforce theory comes from there being a fourth goddess.
The idea of the Tetraforce came from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. If you have played the game, you know that in the game you receive a shield known as the Hylian Shield. On the Hylian Shield you can clearly see the Triforce. Under the Triforce there is a phoenix, and under that, however, there is an upside down triangle signifying that there could possibly be a fourth piece. It would make sense seeing that there could be a fourth goddess.
Having a theory about the fourth goddess being the Goddess of Time, and a fourth piece that has yet to be named, we can just safely assume that the fourth piece is the Triforce of Time. I even looked farther back into this and found some interesting things. On the older designs for the Hylian Shield, it had the Triforce and two other triangles. So I would safely assume that at one point the Triforce of Time was split into two pieces for a reason. But that is another story, if you read my timeline you will see what I think happened and why the Tetraforce at one time was split.
Now every Triforce piece has a color. Triforce of Power is red, Triforce of Wisdom is blue, and the Triforce of Courage is green. You are probably asking, “If the Tetraforce is real, than what color is it?” Well, that is a great question. You see the Tetraforce has to be purple. Any time that Tetraforce clues were given out, purple was nearby. For Example: In Zelda II The Adventure of Link, the sixth castle was purple. And, also when you used the whistle to make the castle appear, it appeared in the middle of the three other rocks that happened to also be shaped in a triangle formation. Also in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, if you play four players, the final tunic color was purple. Makes sense seeing that Vaati has an eye (symbolism) and the games that he appears in you control four Links at some point.
I also think that Nintendo has been giving out clues since the beginning.
In The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time, go to the lone skull kid as child or adult (if you go there as adult, kill the lone skull kid and collect 200 Rupees and get him out of your way). After that, look up into the sky. There are two beams of light coming down from the sky, but the shapes of the beams of light are two triangles. Kind of strange? Well, there is more.
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, go to where you get your bottle under the bridge in the Light World. Before the bridge there is a shallow spot of water that is in the shape of a triangle. If you go to the exact same spot in the Dark World, there is a formation of rocks in another triangle formation, signifying two pieces.
What is the significance of two pieces? This next paragraph tell you a story on what I think happened to Link after the events of Minish Cap but 100 years before Ocarina of Time.
As Link grew up, he studied closer about the Triforce and its great intentions. When Link reached adulthood (17 years old) he searched for the Triforce. Unable to find it, he sought out a great sage, Rauru. Rauru told him of the Master Sword and that he placed it inside a pedestal located in an ancient temple near Hyrule Castle. Link immediately sought out this temple and successfully found this mythical blade. Link walked up to it and pulled the sword out. A burst of energy was released from the sword and the pedestal and created an alternate place that Link was standing in. He saw it, the Solid Golden Triangle standing in the one spot. Link went to go touch, just then he dropped the sword and the Full Triforce was infused within his body giving him ultimate power. Link realized what has happened. The power slowly corrupted him and turned him into a Fierce Deity. Link’s body deformed and his hair grew into a bright white color. Armor naturally fused around his body, and etched within the armor was a crescent moon symbolizing his change, and on his left (which is his dominant hand) side of his armor was a small complete solid triangle. With his sword, standing for eternity, at his side, he could never lose. With the power at his hands he threw Hyrule into disorder and chaos. He claimed the throne to Hyrule and declared war on the other races. This war raged onward for many years. Hyrule was almost completely destroyed and Link still being an immortal continued onward with his evil conquest. Din, Nayru, and Farore saw this as bad. They came together to destroy Link. You have to be a god to kill a god. An epic battle raged between the four for days. Finally the numbers started wearing away Link. At the opportune moment, the goddesses stripped Link of the Triforce and resealed it into the Sacred Realm. Then they created the Spiritual Stones which made anyone who had all three had Power, Courage, and Wisdom in balance. They then could touch the Triforce as long as they became in balance with it. This way it was harder to get now. The fourth goddess showed up and stripped Link of the Triforce of Time and split it into two pieces. She instead hid it throughout Hyrule, so it was impossible to be able to get all four pieces again. The goddesses together then sealed Link into a mask that looked exactly like him, and called it the Fierce Deity’s Mask. When worn you became powerful just like Link but it had it’s limits. For Link causing so much trouble in the world, he was then cursed that he be reborn every one-hundred years to repay what he has started. He then became known as the Hero of Time, fulfilling the prophecy that has yet to be told.
The reason I think that Link was evil, was because of more clues given out in Majora’s Mask.
In Majora’s Mask, you receive a mask called the Fierce Deity’s Mask. You receive this mask on the moon where all the kids also say very strange things to you. But if you think about it, they all make sense according to this theory. All the kids on the moon give you clues to Link’s existence before his life now.
Odolwa kid-
”Your friends... What kind of... people are they? I wonder... Do these People... think of you... as a friend?”
Goht kid-
”You... What makes you... happy? I wonder... What makes you happy... Does it make... others happy, too?”
Gyorg kid-
”The Right thing... What is it? I wonder... If you do the right thing... Does it make... everybody happy?”
Twinmold kid-
”Your true face... What kind of... face is it? I wonder... The face under the mask... Is that... your true face?”
Majora kid-
”Will you play with me?
(yes)
You don’t have any masks left. Well lets do something else. Lets play good guys against bad guys... Yes. Lets play that. Are you ready?” (he hands Link the Fierce Deity’s Mask) “You are the bad guy. And when you are the bad guy, you just run. That’s fine right? Well... Shall We Play...”
Fierce Deity’s Mask-
Equip this with C. Its dark power can be used only in boss rooms.
With those above quotes, it would seem that the kids knew what they were talking about, like they knew something that may have happened before. Also when you are given the mask, it is said that you are the bad guy. That says that Fierce Deity Link was in fact evil.
If the fourth piece does exist, there have been clues since the beginning.
This next one is debatable. In The Legend of Zelda on the title screen there is an upside down triangle behind the title.
Now I understand that in the game you are looking for the Triforce of Wisdom, but who ever said that the Triforce piece on the original game wasn’t the Tetraforce.
This would also explain the Master Sword and the Harp of Ages. Obviously they forged to help defeat the person who wields the Triforce of Time, as they have the power of time in them as well. You only can defeat time with time. It would seem that a person with three pieces of the Triforce would be all powerful but however they would die with time, but if a person would have all four pieces they would be an immortal. So it would seem that the Master Sword and the Harp of Ages were forged to fight against the person wielding all four pieces.
Of course the final two clues towards its existence would have to be in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. When you reawaken the Tower of the Gods, that used to be the Temple of Time, and where does it get raised, right in the middle of the Triforce that appears when you place the crystals. (Which by the way, the crystals happen to have the designs that each song has from Oracle of Ages, that you could play with the Harp of Ages). Finally, the head pirates name is Tetra, who happens to be Zelda, who is the only person that knows of the fourth goddess.
One more interesting fact about Link. There is symbolism all around Zelda, one of them being a crawfish on Link’s tunic in Wind Waker on the second quest. Well, crawfish have sharp claws because they fight to the death for their food. Quite courageous wouldn’t you think. Courage is Link’s Triforce piece in Ocarina of Time, he has to find eight courage pieces in Wind Waker. Link had to collect the pieces to gain entrance into sunken Hyrule. He needed this to prove himself worthy to the gods. In many ways this is like the crawfish. They have to prove their way into their family or get kicked out. So, in a way, Link is fighting for the acceptance into the family of destiny, like acceptance into the eyes of the gods. Kind of ironic seeing what he did as the Fierce Deity.
So with all that in mind, it is quite possible that there is a fourth piece. However, I do not think that we truly would ever know, since it is a mysterious thing, and like posted above, it has been lost within the Legends of Zelda.
Could Zelda In Fact Be The Fourth Goddess
Think of this. Link is the Hero of Time because he is the only one to have ever possessed the Tetraforce. So he gets reborn because he needs to. Why does Zelda get reborn. She isn’t anything special. But, Zelda has special powers, though. She can talk with telepathic abilities. Where did she get these skills. Why is she reborn all the time. She was the only one that knew about the Goddess of Time in Majora’s Mask.
Shadow Link
Also where did Shadow Link come from. My guess is he came from the dark energy leak from the Fierce Deity’s Mask. His dark side is coming back to get him.
But both of these are thoughts and other theories for another time.
