Wii Outselling PS3 6-1 in Japan....already?

That will hold the GAMERS off. You forget that the Wii was purchased by many adults who have no interest in Metroid or Soccer. Luckily there is Big Brain and Wiiplay but those can't last for long.

luckily we have ssbb lets just hope its good and the online dosnt suck and they have servers

they can use FC's and have a option to face random people

Then they bought the wrong console.

And considering they already bought the console, it isn't going to hurt Nintendo.

Nintendo relies on software sales to profit. Their is no confirmation that the Wii is sold at a profit.

The last thread we had about this came up with at least 180$ to produce the Wii and guesses on the markup in stores between 40-70. Development and marketing costs could eat up the 30$ profit on the low end of the markup guess. At best Nintendo is breaking even (which I doubt). Right now Nintendo is using its profits from the DS to keep the Wii alive.

Nintendo themselves said the Wii was intended for the family. Even the Metroid interview mentions something along the lines of "the controls were made so that your 8 year old daughter or 80 year old grandmother can enjoy the game"

The Wii had just hit the 8.1 million mark for units sold worldwide, while the Xbox 360 achieved 10 million, and the PS3 3.42 million

1.Xbox 360
2.Wii
3.PS3
8.1 million? i smell bullshit

Yes all consoles make the bulk of their money from software. But Nintendo does in fact make $40 profit on each console. This was confirmed back in like December.

And sovieto this is one of many sources. Google it yourself if you need more proof.

Did you forget that the store has to profit? Going by your source Nintendo is most definitely losing money on each Wii. The markup that retailers like Target/TRU/CC/BB get on an item like this is 40-70$

Cost total: $158.30
Wholesale price: $195.99

The $250 - $195 is where stores make the profit.

Wholesale - Cost Total = Nintendo profit.

Oops, I didn't read that close enough. You are right. Profit on each console at about 40$

Not bad! I read the Iphone makes nearly 400$ profit per unit.

They also make about 1 soul per iphone sold.

Wii outselling PS3 6 to 1 in Japan
by GamePro Staff | 07/02/2007 | 10:12:50 AM PST print comments [ 33 ] digg this! Share on Facebook Nintendo widened its sales gap over Sony last month in Japan with Wii outselling the PS3 by a factor of 6 to 1 according to the country's largest game magazine publisher, Enterbrain.

How long until Wii sales finally stabalize?
The company sold 271K Wiis in June, about 80% of what the game maker sold in the U.S. for the month of May. By comparison, Sony sold 42K PS3s and Microsoft shifted 18K Xbox 360s last month reports Reuters.

"High prices and lack of attractive software titles" were cited for the continued slow sales of Sony's PS3 in the country.

The news marks the largest comparative lead of Wii over the PS3 in Japan to date. The console's gap over the PS3 was 4 to 1 in April and 5 to 1 in May.

Sony was not immediately available for comment

What do guys think is going in the minds of SONY?

Well OBVIOUSLY. The price difference, nature of the consoles, and release date times will tell you why. Enough said.

I think you misunderstand. In the other thread where we post 3:1 5:1 etc we are comparing a single month so the amount of time in the market is not relevant.

With that said the PS3 was available NOVEMBER 11 2006 while the Wii was DECEMBER SECOND 2006, not enough difference to matter by now.

The Wii is still in a shortage in many areas of the world. If Nintendo could increase production these numbers would be even more impressive.
