Wii in Australia thread

so i guess a wireless router is in order. the cheapest i can find is $98 tho.
waht have you guys set the wii up with?

The router i got is linksys wrt54gl it cost 104 from umart in sydney, im not sure how good it is unhacked but my friend hacked it and it has alot of options and it works fine with everything.

I upgraded my Netgear RP614v3 Router to the Netgear WGT624v3, which is basically the same router, with wireless capability. I chose that cause the RP614 was a great low end router that did everything i wanted it too, so i didn't see any point in moving away from something that worked well. It cost me $95, which i thought was a decent price. I don't have any other wireless devices, so basically I upgraded specifically for my Wii, worth it though. I did have a few problems setting it up at first, but i just had to turn off a few options and it worked fine...

I dont know about that particular router but ive had bad experiences with d-link personally i would pick a linksys wrt54g its around the same price and in my mind alot better.

cant find that perticular linksys but there all around $130-$190 mark.

wat problems did you have with the d-link, were they on the wii or just internet related? cuz the guy at dick smiths said that router should work fine and if not just return it.
and thanks for the reply's dood, i'm not a complete hack at computers but i'm not used to this wireless crap.
cheers

I'd say no as well, It would be able to work with the Wii, but I'm not a fan of D-Link either. The Linksys router No Smoking pointed out, can only operate at a maximum of 54 Mbps, where the Netgear one i pointed out can operate at a maximum of 108 Mbps, and the site I'm looking at, there both the same price...

none in victoria dammit.
can someone find me a link to something in melbourne possibleh.
but i dont need anything flashy i just want something that'll be easy to connect up and run my wii online for the updates, i dont need it to be superfast

d-link i found that they can be hard to work with also with my wired d-link i lost my internet quite offend never tried a d-link wireless though but i know alot of people who arent very happy with them.

Try this link
http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?manufacturer=linksys&model=wrt54g&words=&phrase=&excludewords=&site=&statevic=on&price-min=59&price-max=&links=100
its basically the cheapest price found in vic. static ice is a good website if your looking for computer related parts it basically searches all the computer shops in australia or in this case vic.

just noticed the wrt54gc comes up in that search too i not sure how good that is but i recommend getting either the wrt54g or the wrt54gl (btw when i said my friend hacked it that is not required its still a good router hacked or stock)

cheers that helps, my dad knows about all this stuff cuz he works for the abc he's an editor abd he'll probly know some computer place that sells them cheap.

so do you have that perticular router connected to your wii?
