The Wii looks just fine on my DLP Samsung and it's the 40-50 inch model I forget it's BIG -Just look at my hands- See! Super clean graphic with the red and yellows...LOL yeah I was surprised too! It's a damn good TV!

Are you kidding? Have you seen Ratchet and Clank graphics!? The PS3's graphics have more potential than the 360! The system is freaking being used to find a cure for cancer!

Really so you are saying that the xbox 360 can not help cure cancer when most tech savy guys know as hardware geeks already know that the graphics cards found in both of the HD system would give the cell a nice kick in the pants FP wise which is the only really good thing about the PS3 tech. So in lamens words the Cell is all hype right now till some one figures out how to get more than 40-50 of it's potential out of a CPU that does know if it wants to be a GPU or a CPU. Either way it is going to get crushed on either side as the xbox 360 has shown more potential and on another note the GPUs are what really makes the current HD systems shine and they are neck and neck visual wise. I just wanted to clear up the Cell hype train wreck a little there. The PS3 is different yet not better than the xbox 360 ok.

And the Wii's graphics aren't "Bad", just "Behind".

Physics and AI take up processing power. Yeah, it's dependent on the game, but it's up to the system to be able to pull it off. The Wii could do Portal, but it would be dumbed down a bit as far as graphics go.

I mean, if the Wii was half as powerful as the PS3, then what's with the Wii being left out of the loop of multi-platform hits!?

Portal have been in gaming for a while and I think it is the shader effect that no one wants to replicate on the Wii....LOL as Elebits has already shown retarded amounts of physic in the same amount of space. Also too the Wii's shader are like doing matrix equation in the dark..LOL If any one could make it it would have to be a labor of love and we all know the Wii gets no love right now!

Don't get me wrong. I love the Wii. I usually defend it. But some things are just obvious. I still think the Wii has a lot of potential.

Seriously If you having played on some of the new tech you will be amazed! Yet I've been their and seen that for a while and if the game play isn't there I just can't see my self spending money on some thing I could have just made in zbursh my self. graphics are currently = to xbox 360 graphics, but 360 is a year older, look back a year at how much better 360's newer games graphics are compared to a year ago, they always improve on every console, So PS3 will surpass 360 in due time, especially when 360 reaches its graphical limit and PS£ powers

This is not true and is more like saying that hey Ati just released a video card which has the same abilities than a nvidia card yet because it is older the nvidia card will be able to keep up with the newer card. The Ps3 is not packing that much power and in some regards it is less powerful than the 360. When it comes to being more powerful just take a look at what a older model direct X 9 GPU can do and what a direct X ten card can do. You will see the difference right away. This is not the case with the two HD consoles. The most you may get out of the PS3 version is better particle entropy or randomness due to the FP units on the cell. If smoke is your thing thing you will be in heaven!

Like I said before I'm not into the whole AIM thing while gaming. I got that on the PC a lot and it got annoying! Hey but really the HD stuff has to sink in a little more. The normal mapping thing is a modeler's wet dream come true and had nintendo made it easier to use this effect they may have wowed you guys a lot sooner. I don't miss it that much though, you get use to it. But hey not too many people spend a whole day looking at this stuff!

Just to let you know you guys are looking at a texture called a normal map which is actually faking a super high polygon count by making the light render as though there are more polygons there. You actually make graphics like this by making a low resolution model and then making a high resolution model usually around 6million polygons. Then this is calculated into a textured map that holds the direction of the polygons by way of green red and blue pixels. It's like a bump map yet it hold more information actually 3times as much roughly speaking. Either way I don't see this being made on the Wii with out some really smart compression for normal map textures! yet that would be sweet as it would benefit HD systems also!

Hey guys I'm new here and I really should be working on stuff but I just wanted to bring some thing to your attention. The Wii is one of the last true havens for the older forms of hardcore gaming that are going out of style with the current version of the hardcore gamer. These styles include games like No more heros, 2d retro gaming by way of the VC, which includes the most hardcore line up to date on any system all in one place, legit wise any way. Hey be sure to read the whole thing as their are some gems listed here you may not know about! Hardcore gaming of the Wii is it's best kept secret as we down want to scare away the new comers too much!

Just look at all the flak street fighter four is getting for having a 2d playing field? Then just look at how the 2d game of any kind is discounted in the mind of the current hardcore gamer and is even seen as some thing that should not be sold at full price. This is the main reasoning behind VC prices being too high or unfair. To the past hardcore gamer this system is perfect and more of a console than a PC clone. If you look at the post of current gamers they sound like the PC gamers of my teen years. We all know how PC gaming ended up! Who's getting 2 of the 4 good games coming out this year?

Sorry to get off topic but I will move on to the topic at hand. I just had to show where my thinking is coming from because I'm not much of a fanboy of a manufacturer. I'm a fan of a company getting out of the way though and letting other do what they will with the console. Nintendo has made a major push to get the old hardcore playing again along with the new casual market. To me they are enabler right now which had the great idea to make it mass market. Most hardcore gamers don't make a lot of money and if they do they don't have time to play games any more because you got to have money to blow of HDTVs now! Most gamers can not do this and this is the sole reason why consoles exist because PCs are too expensive. Consoles have always been the poor mans or child's PCs for playing games.

1:Graphics: As a avid gamer who happens to be a artist traditionally and CG wise I think the Wii has the right fit. The upgrade in tech is very curious as it seems to be over kill for a SD type of console yet the jury is out on this. If you notice all Wii games run at 60FPS a clear sing that it is not being pushed.

The real question is can the Wii make graphics that make you actualy want to gwak at it? Your answer is in the past my friend. For years consoles had been the lower tech gaming device on the pole with PCs and the arcade shoving console in their place. Yet artistic style has always saved the console from being out shined(that and deeper game play some times too).

It may not have a lot of power for normal maps or some shaders but even that is still being pushed as compression is possible. I haven't benchmarked the system yet I see plenty that could make the old Post UT Quake 3-4 modder in me happy. After playing a few games like metroid and a few other you coulds really do some nice games on this system. No more heros is a perfect example of what developers need to be making for the Wii. It simple, has lots of gamer induced style points and classic hardcore game play that actually plays off the graphical style.. Also I have to bring up the fact that Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes looks way better than Soul caliber legends, hell even the character designs have way more style in them. You have to budget you polygon count and your textures have to be clean and well crafted. If you look most high end games are relying more on shaders than good old texturing. Also 2d wise this system is a power house. Which will be seen when two mostly unknown 2d games hit the Wii.

The Wii is just going into it's second gen of software and seems to be mostly untapped if you look at what Factor 5 was able to do with inferior hardware. The simple answer is not much money has been invested into making the Wii graphics chips sing yet as they can do functional shader type applications yet the frame rate would be in question. If you look at the texture budget of say a smash brothers and some other games all running at 60 frames I seriously doubt the system has peaked yet.

At 2000-10,000 dollars to get my hands on a dev system for me and a few programmers friends to play with I think their could be some cool stuff made on it as most of my 3d apps actually cost 4000-6000 dollars. Also too BWii has some great normal mapping going on in their too. The problem is Every one believes that it is not worth investing in the Wii's graphic pipe line when you have basically two other consoles that use some form of shader effects to out put HD graphics. It's funny but I'm wonder where did all the good 2d artist go? Also too take notice how realism has become a crutch for most artist in the HD realm of gaming. This has been a problem for PC games for a while as all of the creative games dried up on PCs and came to where the open minded where which was to the consoles. Now you seem to have two choices on your gaming platform graphics wise. Those choices are realism or casual Ipod or classic simple with no edge.

If I'm a designer right now I would have to just put my head down and not get on the internet as all you hear is no one wants any thing but realism and HD graphics. If it is any thing less than that we would want it for a discount? Is it me or does their seem to be a lot of displaced PC gamers playing consoles right now?

2: Online
I like what they have right now since there is no restriction. EA has their own servers and really if a developer gave me a chance to run a server off my PC for a Wii game I would rather have that than the Xbox live thing. Also too the main games that need online will have them 32 player death match sounds good to me and all of EA sports have online with leader boards. Also too the random matches are cool with me too. I don't need to play my friends. The online games where I do that are on the PC any ways. Maybe this is why the Wii so called lack of online is not a problem to me because I have other means of playing online and free of charge also. I'm not a AIM type of person any more either so the Wii suits me just fine as I use it to play the games you will not see on other systems mainly. If you are truly hardcore then you should have a problem getting live of a PC set up. If money is a problem then please realize what you purchased. Even the xbox arcade system is pretty limited online wise with out that hard drive I hear. Also too a part of me doesn't even want online on my Wii unless it is Ad hoc style where I can get a lan going with two Wiis in a room to play multi players games in the same house building. Lan parties have alway been the best type of online play IMO. Yet I really just want single player games on the Wii.I've been playing online for over 10 years now and believe me you are not missing much if you actually like a good ol console game. Really I would like to see more games on the Wii that don't need online to be fun. Hey but this is just me and for some reason I don't like hidden taxes to get the full enjoyment out of my game which includes DL content.

3: 3rd party support?
What happened to the hardcore gamer in some of you guys? You seem to be complaining as if you are a sega genesis owner wanting to play wing commnder in it's full glory? is the casual gaming thing getting you down also? Hmmmm interesting. I've got plenty to play on my Wii and all my games have provided a very nice challenge.

Yes I'm talking about the hardcore and especially the cash strapped ones. Ubi has a lot to prove with ACreed doing ok and showing them hey we want games not interactive renders of zbrush produced normal maps held together with a really nice climbing sim.

Also too team ninja has a very nice game in the new ninja gadien yet I'm much more excited in the game play style of the DS version. It has a more ninja feel to it for some reason?

just look at what they will let on their system now... this is becoming a really nice haven for the old school hardcore gamers! Yes their has been some misses yet their are a lot of hits! The sales may not show it but I'm very happy with my library of games and VC games and I'm looking forward to the sleeper hits coming down the line.

Really the whole casual thing is simply some thing nintendo is doing to get more people playing simply because for the last few generation gamers simply put nintendo down at every turn. Their seems to be a lot of hate against nintendo and it seems to be from old school gamers and has carried on to the new school gamers that grew up with the PS brand. Really to tell you the truth nintendo is playing this game right. they are simply making the Wii a blue ocean for hardcore games with no competition really coming from nintendo on this side of things it seems. The 3rd parties are still waiting to see if this thing flops or becomes a fad. So is the hardcore community. I really don't understand the hate though. Nintendo has always been a casual company since the old LCD hand helds and arcade games. They can make other games but that is not their focus which ok because their are loads of developers out their to feel their shoes.

they really want to get into this market because coming up with good hardcore games often is very hard to do just ask the PS3 developer and the xbox 360 developers. What we deem as interesting is very skewed as gamers right now since their are so many different types in gaming right now. The 3rd parties that will suffer on the Wii the most are the teams that have no real vision of gaming and it shows.Yet most of the heavy hitters are trying to make the HD sale work. I don't know how many times we will see games with lack luster sales yet had big budget dev price tags get the ok. New franchises are having a rough time on the HD systems it seems.

As a gamer I'm pretty happy with what is happening. I always wonder what the console developers would do if given a PC like system and I think they answered my question. They would make what any PC developer would make a PC game. So far I'm not impressed to the point to get another "console" other than the Wii. Like I said before I have a PC and I love Hd stuff yet some thing seems to be missing from games these days period and I welcome the new comers and the people that will try Wii ware!

4:raw power
AI- ok name a HD game that has good AI? Really in all the game I have seen the Ai still sucks and seems likt that will always be the case since most of the HD game are sand box style games made for online play. So really in order to have a mario game with great Ai you would have to let other people control the progenies right? Hey that would be fun too! Physics- elibits- and the whole idea is over rated because these systems still can do physic all that great. Then you have frame rate. Well most game run at 60 frames per second any way. Hell excite truck in crazy fast compared to the slow-mo simulator that is motor storm. So what is the problem? Oh it that high resolution texture thats got you all hyped up? I wonder how many of those games run at 60 FPS? I mean what would you choose if you had a PC game? Low effects and high frame rate or high effects and stop motion animation? Choose your hardcore-ness you can't have both unless you pay for bought. It will cost you around 1500-2500 dollars if you are up to that. Really the Wii is what you paid for. It's your annual 200-300 console coupled with tech to make gaming fun and affordable. Serious look around would you paid for mario galaxy or Wii sport if the system cost 400 dollars from the get go? If you said yes then you should have a xbox or PS 3 right now and if so then why are you still complaining? Really I've seen lots of crap since I've been gaming and we may never get another PS2 again because that was the first time one company had the market completely to them selves sales wise.

As a gamer find what you like and share it with the hardcore. The only reason why I even look at reviews is to see screen shots and video from game play. The score means nothing to a hardcore gamer it's just their opinion. I mean make me another Ikaruga and a 2d strider that rocks and even sequels to some real old school games like beat em ups and shooters and I'm game!

You really have to ask your self why are you hard core? If you are hardcore because of some "loyalty" then you not really having fun this gen are you? I think this is where all the anger is coming from. I mean just look at all the mean-ness there is online in the hardcore community that is suppose to love gaming. I'm having a hard time believing these guys are fans of gaming. They seem more like fans of loyalty and bragging rights which have reduced the system war to a gladiator sport of some sorts where the only thing that matters is numbers rather than favorite games!

I mean hell if I could get a Wii version of contra 4 which was made on the DS with a better resolution and crazier action on my Wii I would buy it hands down! I mean really this system can go way beyond what you are use to seeing in 2d!

I'll be to the point. If you got a Wii why can you not get an xbox 360? Why can't a 500-300 dollar laptop not play online games?

Also too sorry for the long post but I'm very much in the loop with PC games and I'm looking forward to the annual games from Epic and ID software along with valve. You see what I did there right? I'll only be buying like 6 games tops on the PC and they are all from the same guys unless konami changes their mind on PC support and puts MG on there. If it doesn't happen I'll just get a PS3 then!

No offense taken as I should have been working on something else rather than typing that! There is so much to say though. You guys are right to rag on them but why keep beating a dead horse it's not going to go any faster.

Basically I'm saying that you guys have choices other than the Wii and those choices will cost you money either way it goes. It can be the price of an xbox 360 and live or the price of a nice PC gaming rig, you choose. To the people who can't afford either did you want this stuff for free? I mean you get what you pay for why cry about it? Console developers don't have sponsors like nvidia to throw money their way. Yes hardware manufactures do do this! And if it is not money then it is ungodly tech support which is a developers wet dream. A 50 dollar profit is very different from a 300-400 dollar profit they make on video cards.

To me nintendo has listened and started to put online into their games yet it may not have all the bells and whistles but stop and think how much money was put into these features and the bug testing involved! Online and a service like Live is not a small task and as much money as nintendo is making they are still no MS. Hell even SONY is having a hard time matching what MS is doing yet they have more money to throw around. Play MS's game and you will not win.

Face it nintendo is a small fish making a big splash compared to what MS and SONY could both do. Maybe this is not true for SONY as the are in a lot of debt but they have other ways to pay for such things.

Online is in games right now...LOL with friend codes which actually is no different than typing in a server for my favorite online game in my eyes. It's a pain yet it is there. Yet then again I don't use my Wii for that any way mostly. Also too the funny thing is if I get an box 360 it will not be for online games unless I get into racing sims or if SF4 has a really sick online set up.

Really the VOIP is not needed and hasn't been needed by me for a long long time since I started playing online.

I guess the graphic hype for me is over since the games we play are still pretty limited and I want at least 800,000 polygons per character. Can it be done? Well we went from 400 to 5000 to 20,000- 60,000 on the HD systems including PC which actual has around 100,000 if you look in the right places. I look forward to the next gen because each console and even the PC have all moved forward in some way. It may not be paying off for every one right now but it will. UT3 will hopefully get a lot of you playing a PS3 also.

Also too why do I have to job off the PC boat to play console games? I grew up playing them and thats what I've always liked. I simply go where the games go, why have loyalty? It doesn't make my games any funnier. But why sit there and hate some thing because it clearly is not what you want?

NO ONE in my house plays games but me. ALL my friends live out of my neighborhood.
I'm more willing to pay $24 a month than I am $1000 dollars at once.

Most people want to play games that were made after the 90's. You're a special case. I'm fairly sure Nintendo's market isn't "WiitnessID".

I don't know anyone who would rather have no online because they think it's a gimmick. Heck, I don't know anyone who thinks it's a gimmick.

Nope it's still a gimmick... why do I say this? Who still plays quake 3 team arena? you can't play it with bots but I can play some old sonic games all day. So I wonder whats going to happen to halo1 and 2 now that 3 is out? Who is playing it now? Yes people play online games on PC for years but is that the case with consoles? So I don't know if I can't boot up a game and have fun with out online then why is it not a gimmick?

I understand where you are coming from though and I'm maybe a lot older than you. My online play really started in college and grad school. I miss the one player two player games. I'm actually part of the mark nintendo calls the lapse gamer and I once had a hate love fan based thing with nintendo, but after what happened to Sega I'm just happy they are still in the game because I like what console uses to be. I mean the PS2 is full of games that didn't really need online play and the console before that really didn't NEED it either. This is my point why do we need it now?

It seems a lot of you guys have internet friends and thats the cool place to hang out which explain why My space is a hit and Home is so loved by PS3 fans.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention because I rarely meet my friends online and have many gaming buddies in other parts of the world due to my PC gaming. Yet when you add the retro gamer which played a wider variety of games and the casual gamer up together suddenly you can see why so many people are getting a Wii. Also too just looking at some of the post here I'm not sure if I would even put you guys on my friend list if I had an xbox 360 as it's ok to joke and be rude but you guys really do operated like this daily it seems..

Well hating it won't make it better it will just make you bitter. Most Wii haters are around 15-25 is my guess with 26-and over being all lapse gamers. Am I right? Also too they are moving in the right direction but hating on them will not make them move any faster.

Hate will just make them forget about you and move on to better stuff like making money. You have to remember that same hate produced the Wii and the GC. Their are two typs of systems on the market right now console (DS PSP and Wii) and quasi PCs(xbox 360, PS3). Which group is doing better? I think I'm going to get a PSP soon too!

Nintendo is doing just fine let them keep pushing systems how ever they have to. The 3rd parties will come around and hell online may even get better?

2. The reason online games die out is because better ones are made. The cycle of life. The only way online gaming could be a gimmick is if it almost completely died out. Contrary, it's growing.

3. Yes. I spend most of my day at the computer. I'll admit that, but less browsing the web and more animating and making music.

4. You're an individual. There aren't many out there like you. People like me are a dime a dozen. The general mind of the public we call man kind agrees that while not essential, online game-play is better than none.

What is bad business moves and when did you become a share holder? I'm not sure what is bad business the whole industry is out doing all expectations, except the PS3 domination one!

If you want a Wii live then email nintendo! I can't help you there nor can any one on here since we don't work for them. If you really want to pay 24 dollars for some thing like live then let them know!Nintendo has already patterned with some online company over in japan to provide demos and other stuff so really be a constructive consumer and email them! I don't think nintendo will pass up a change to make 24 extra dollar for some thing they already provide for free minus the other bells like VOIP and AIM for consoles.

Really turn you hate into a voice no one hears you here we are just gamers playing games and getting all pissy about said games apparently.

I mean MS has been designing server software for years! I don't know any thing from nintendo that run a SQL server reliably. This is part of MS DNA... and gaming is part of Nintendo's. Make your choices more wisely next time or either start a web site and wake Reggie up at all hours of the night!

There are xbox 360 what ever version at the game stop right now for 250 used! Trade that Wii in or sell it! You could always get another one from the profit!

Stop crying and do some thing constructive! Sorry to be harsh but other fans need to unite with you and be more constructive. I mean if you really are hard core then do the hard core thing and send nintendo real mail and email! The code name was Revolution and revolutions get no where if all you do is complain! I'm not here to argue and was actually just wondering whats going on in the fan site for the Wii. Really if it wasn't for the complaints being heard by nintendo then I don't think we would have online any thing right now.

most of the 1st post points are correct "wii is the best system that i own" or "wii graphics are not bad"......

also, i agree that it could have been better, also you cannot say that the online of wii is "terrible".....i think it's ok, and it's getting better and better as it seems.....

also, the topic's title.."Wii Fail At Life",
but it won't fail in sales, success and so on....
i'm pretty sure that xbox360 will soon be on the bottom, after 2 years (about) when ps3 gets even cheaper...
conclusion: clear demand for nintendo, very low demand for sony....

Also too the general mind is Pro Wii right now. You should say the majority though. There is no such thing as a general mind as we are not clones yet we do think the same a lot. You just name the characteristics of sheep almost, not saying you are but it's really close.

I know I'm different from most of the new comers and that fine by me because I'm not so bitter at gaming and as gamers we got it good, if you have the money that is.

Really be more democratic and use your voice where it matters. I'm just a fan of gaming and could easily defend having a xbox or PS3 even though I don't want one right now as they are all good game systems!
