hey guys, i was just thinking about wii discs they are only 4.7gig(dvd5), does anyone else think this is a bit small?? when do you think nintendo will use larger discs, whats the biggest size wii can handle(i know that it cant do bluray or hddvd) oh yeh would it really effect games:scared:

4.7 is huge... really big... very large... monsterous... i.e. not small.

i could be wrong, but are there any other games on other consoles being released
exclusively on the higher capacity DVDs?

4.7Gb DVD's are not big, think of the context in which they're used. Vice City alone was about 1.5Gb (I believe) and San Andreas about 4. Games take up a lot of space, my guess being that Wii games even more because of the information they need to be able to interpret for controller operation and motion sensing (Such as Zelda and Metroid, holy crap).

Well you can also have double layered disks like brawl that will have twice that in memory

controller operation won't bloat the software... it's in the Wii OS
a combo of remote moves will not be any more taxing that a combo of button mashing moves on a traditional controller.

so i quote below...

i realize that PS3 can do blu-ray, but that would be for movies... to support games on that capacity may not be necessary... how much bloat is in the games you mention?

Well I don't think its small for what the Wii can handle, I mean look at Brawl.
All those modes, characters etc. stuffed onto one disc? Unbelievable!

At least we don't have to worry about two discs like we did with the Gamecube.

maybe someone who pirates games will know the largest size wii game they have backedup.

ok i will just answer all of your questions. for the most part the wii uses DVD's which have a compacity of 4.5-4.7 gb. you can put a very long game in that. but the wii also supports DVD DL which has twice the memory as a DVD and this disc is the same one that the 360 uses to put 1080i games on. the blu ray games can currently hold 25gb and 50gb in DL, but no developer will ever use all of it.

to answer the OP's question. it wont affect games on the wii. if you look at it practically, the wii has the capability of have much longer games then the 360. just on a side note, DVD's have a silver base and a DVD DL has a gold base. but the only game on wii to use DL is brawl. galaxy didnt even use DL.

As mentioned, the Wii can handle 8.5 DL-DVDs (Brawl) as well. If that's all the all-powerful 360 needs, I'm sure we can make do with it as well.

but note that although SSBB is a DL disk it doesn't use it all for the actual game.... once you take off the VC Demo's it goes back to being a nomral DVD size

brawl with all the VC games doesnt fill the DVD DL anyway. we have nothing to worry about when it comes to disc space.
