The Many Holidays of Every Day

I don't bother with pancakes and waffles. I don't wanna brag I don't wanna boast. I always tell 'em, I like toast. ...... yeah toast.

March 9th

Today, we've got a solid seven holidays and one birthday.

Crab Meat Day
Joe Franklin Day
Lent
Panic Day
Registered Dietitian Day
Saint Frances of Rome's Feast Day
Barbie Doll's Anniversary
Amerigo Vespucci

Crab Meat Day celebrates an incredibly tasty crustacean from the bering sea; my second favorite sort of seafood, in fact (the first being lobster, which is tantamount to being crab but even better :p). While scavenging crustaceans would probably kill you if eaten straight-raw, once purged of any deadly pathogens and diseases, it's ****in' good, and goes with quite a bit of food. Salads, soups, main dishes, straight-up (I'd be more than content if I could eat crab meat sticks every day :D), sandwiches, it's a versatile meat. Not as versatile as say, chicken, but I'd say it's even better... Man, March has some good food holidays. Holiday pick of the day is the food holiday again. I love food far too much. :p

Joe Franklin Day honors the acclaimed king of radio and television on his birthday, born in 1926 as Joe Fortgang. Even I know this entertainment legend, but his wiki-page is insultingly small... A man of philosophy, comedy, and even a successful writer, Frank is still workin' his magic on the air even at the age of 85. I'm less of a fan of the radio than I am of TV, but as I said, even I know this dude. He's worth a listen, I tell ya. I'm not one for advertisement, but his official website has a cache of his old shows, so give 'em a hear if you've the time.

Lent's that Christian holiday I mentioned recently. Beginning today, lent lasts fourty-six days prior to Easter, the phoenix-downing of Jeebus Christo. According to whichever gospel, Jeebus sat in a desert and refused to eat for forty days in an attempt to imitate Buddha-belly. Unfortunately, he pussied out on day 40 and decided to return to the preaching n' stuff; obtaining enlightenment is all or nothing, it seems... imeanwut?

As a result, Christians are supposed to imitate the imitator, and more importantly, repent one's sin in preparation for Easter, by a variety of tasks. Fasting certain foods is the most popular method. Asceticism and almsgiving are also present, and are certainly much more amiable IMO.

Panic Day is the day to release everything that's on your mind, got ya stressed, and perhaps even panicking. It happens to everyone often (particularly in the fast and furious, materialistic lives we lead today...), so make sure that you release it more than once a year. But 'ey, might as well start with March 9th. So go ahead, freak out of everyone for today... Except for on my forum. ;)

Registered Dietitian Day is the day to appreciate... registered dietitians. Dietitians actually do more than give life-advice for what food you eat, so this holiday isn't as lame as you'd think. Dietitians have big stakes in dietetics research (what a surprise), guiding clinics, hospitals, and other organizations on what meals should provide, etc. Consulting dietitians in order to get a diet is the most widely known, but easily the stupidest aspect of a dietitian's possible work.

St. Francesca Romana's Feast Day honors the cleric and supposed mystic as the patron saint of oblates. Another feast day meh... Moving along.

Barbie Doll's Anniversary is another day to just be moving along from. Ya won't catch me celebratin' this.

Amerigo Vespucci was a cartographer and explorer born in Florence, Italy during 1454. Assassin's Creed fans like myself might be familiar with 'em... :D Amerigo is mostly known for his realization that the lands Christopher Columbus discovered; the New World; were not actually Asia, and indeed a new land mass. As a result, the New World was formally named after the feminization of his name, America. Quite a bit of his history has to do with forgeries created by other people and otherwise unclear history, so... not much to say besides that.

Today, we've got a small three holidays, and one birthday.

Potato Chip Day
Moth-er Day
Pi Day
Albert Einstein's Birthday

Be it crisps or chips, whatever the **** you call 'em, this delicious and fattening food certainly deserves a day of celebration; as such, here we have Potato Chip Day. Invented way back in most likely the 1820s, it took another good 30 years in 1853 for the crispy goodness to catch on. Resort cook George Crum got a tad irked when a man he served fries to complained about them being to thick; so, Crum decided to pull a dick move and give the customer what he wanted: ridiculously thin fries. He also over-fried them and salted the bastards to death with the expectations of giving the customer somethin' nasty to chew on, but instead, the dude ended up loving 'em (clearly he had poor taste...). Taking the win when he was attempting to serve a loss, Crum continued making his "Saratoga chips" and eventually owned his own establishment through the profits. It wasn't until the 1910s that potato chips were no longer restaurant-exclusive and began to be mass produced, shipped in barrels, and sold directly by weight (like a certain other food holiday we recently discussed...). After that, the rest is history.

So yeah, what're y'alls favorite chip flavor and brand? In the rare event I do eat chips, I loves me some Cape Cod chips. Great flavor without being absurdly greasy (I'm looking at you, Lays...), and a superb crunch only kettle-cooked chips can provide. They no longer sell my favorite flavor, the generic "herbs and spices" chip, and now have more specific flavors apparently... Not surprised, since I haven't had the chips in at least a year. Oh, and here's somethin' I just learned; chicken-flavored chips exist. Do want. They also have crab... Do want even more. :D And to top it off, ... THEY HAVE BACON FLAVORED CHIPS!!! WHY AREN'T THESE POPULAR IN THE US?! D:<

Moth-er Day is obviously a play of words on Mother's Day, but the two don't relate at all; Moth-er day is a day of celebration for people who are Moth specialists, be it entomology or collectors. Never really cared for the metamorphosing things with wings.

Pi Day, while unfortunately not being a food, celebrates the important infinite number we refer to as pi on the date 3/14 every year. Mathemataticals, engineering, and sciences often rely heavily on pi for certain formula, so as much as I hate the god-forsaken practice of crunching numbers, I can't deny pi deserves a day. There's a ridiculous amount of **** precisely as to why pi is important, and how it was made; I still want nothing to ****in' do with it. Instead, you can enjoy this if you're a bloody math nerd. NNNNEEERRRRRDDDDDD!!!!!!!

Albert Einstein; we all know who this dude is, ironically born on pi day. The man who discovered E = mc[SUP]2[/SUP], the theory of mass-energy equivalence. The genius behind the theory of relativity. And holy god, so much more. There's no point in talkin' 'bout his massive achievements. You either know them, or like me, wouldn't understand them. Nor should I dishonor the great dude's morals by discussing his life story. If you're curious 'bout this dude, treat yourselves by finding the information yourselves. Certainly won't be too hard. Either way, my respect for Einstein is beyond words. A birthday as the holiday pick of the day is simply no problem nor worry on this occasion, that's for sure.

The Holiday thread is postponed once more because I can't find myself giving half a **** about anything, these days...

Return-to-activity date is unknown.
