I can't speak for the entire world, but I'd imagine there ain't exactly a corn shortage in the US. Makes 'bout 40% of the world's corn. Outside the US, I'd think that only applies to poverty-ridden countries, which aren't usually big on cars or transportation machinery regardless.

No, this ain't a lie; today is Cake Day! =D Whether you want to play Portal, or ya want to eat some cake (don't blame ya), today's the day to do either or both. So long as you can eat cake, you can't possibly hate every type of cake in existence. So indulge a little, it's ****ing cake day.


Small Business Day is for all the middle class and lower who can only afford **** bought at inexpensive super stores (ohai Walmart), or simply ignore small businesses in general. Yes, such stores are the epitome of convenience, but your money is being poured into an already well-oiled money machine. At least for one day, be it today or your next shopping trip, pay a visit to a local small business. They're struggling from the economy probably even more than you are (unless you have no income, considering they do have a job) since a nasty time in the economy reduces their profits and their amount of customers. Not to mention small businesses aren't necessarily all-that more expensive anywho; a lot of superstores have been jacking up their prices for reason more than just the economy hitting hard... =/ Indeed, this gets my holiday pick of the day.


International Aura Awareness Day is a bunch of bullshit popularized by the crazier of overly-spiritual believers, and con artists like fortune tellers. Until such fools can start throwing around Aura Spheres, GTFO!


Muharram is simple enough for even me to grasp: it's one of four sacred months on the Islamic calender, and the first month in general. During these four holy months fighting is strictly prohibited, hence the base word being "haram", meaning forbidden. I'd say that's pretty interesting, since such practice considers that humans are incapable of being forever at peace and unviolent, but can certainly abstain from brutality for at least a period. Quite realistic I'd say. Muharram considered a sacred month for multiple reasons; which are simple enough for me to grasp, but I still risk herpaderping it up. So here ya go.

Advent begins the fourth sunday before Christmas, and counts down the days 'till said holiday. And now you know why advent calenders exist.


National Bavarian Cream Pie Day combines two things; Bavarian cream and pie; into one holiday. But, you know my beef with food holidays about a certain sub-category of the food in question. Regardless, if you've never had a Bavarian cream dessert before, you're certainly missin' out.


John F. Kennedy Day is lacking data... ... ... And on a day with so few holidays, too. ;_;


Everyone knows who this boss is... But if you're a ****ing fool who doesn't know good music, Jimi Hendrix, full name James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix, is a damn musical legend. Questionable morals and hobbies, but unquestionable talent. 'Nuff said.

National French Toast Day celebrates that delicious not-very-toast-like breakfast food that many people would eat for more than just breakfast. Easy to make but incredibly delicious, it's hard to hate this age-old treat. Way back in the 4th-5th century is the first mention of french toast; however, it didn't have eggs in the recipe until the mid to late 1800s. Turns out the origin of the name isn't all-that far back either, and there isn't even anything concrete, just theories. Oh, and by pure coincidence I had french toast for breakfast today. :lol:


Cyber Monday is the internet version of Black Friday, simple as that. When I said that people shopping IRL are stupid I wasn't referring to this as the proper alternative (didn't know 'bout it 'till today), but I'll take it. :lol: If you've got gift-related shopping to do, today's the day to take advantage of bargains (with the convenience of the net!), so this is my holiday pick of the day.


Albania's Independence Day celebrates the day five centuries of Ottoman rule had finally desisted after a revolution had taken place. Afterwards, Albania was able to create a functioning government for itself and thus, gain independence.


Mauritania's Independence Day celebrates their sovereignty from France in 1960; not that it meant much. Racism, tyranny, and other societal mishaps continue to this day. As proof of this fact, the country's most recent coup happened in 2008, after a democratic presidential election... Yep.


I ain't complaining about not having much to write, but at the same time, hot damn are holidays lackluster lately...

GOOD DAY! =D There. Celebrated. Random as **** holiday can now gtfo.


International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is a sort of Palestinian awareness day. Considering two thirds of their race have no citizenship in any state or territory due to countless exodus', and they lack many of their rights regarding this (including staple inalienable rights), it's an important day of awareness. The date was chosen because of Resolution 181 (II) being passed back in 1947 by the Great Assembly, probably the most important piece of this resolution calling for the construction of an Arab state, and a Jewish state. Israel was created for Jews; however, an Arab state has yet to be made. Considering how long ago this resolution was passed, and only half of the bargain was met, such politics need to come to fruition. Otherwise that's a pretty big ****in' dick move...


Chocolates Day celebrates not chocolate as a whole, but chocolates... Yeah. GTFO!


Louisa May Alcott is a famous American novelist of the 19th century. I can't really say much more about 'er, I vaguely remember the name and don't believe I ever read her books... And if I did, they were forgettable to me.

National Mousse Day celebrates that delicious extra "oomph" some dishes get; although, it's often served as a dessert in it's own right. I'd imagine when most people think of mousse, chocolate mousse; if you're of that mindset, I can assure you that's not the only type and you should go out and find what I'm talkin' 'bout.


I feel as though I already covered something similar... Meh. National Meth Awareness Day is what it is. I've seen the effects of it with my own eyes, and from what I've seen, I believe most people stupid enough to give it a shot (/badtastepun) deserve the consequences. But if you think otherwise, you should damn well spread word how nasty it is.


Computer Security Day originated back in 1988 as, of course, a day of awareness about computer security. Few people had computers back then, and even fewer knew how common and alluring scams can be, so The Association for Computer Security Day came into being alongside this holiday. Random question for y'all; what's your preferred spyware prevention/removal program? Since I'm a cheap asshat, AVG works for me.


With another Saint comes another feast day. Hurray for Saint Andrew's Day... ... ...


Stay Home Because You're Well Day is the day to call in to work well instead of calling in sick, for a day off. Go ahead, if you can pull it off without getting your boss to murder you. :lol:


Barbados' Independence Day celebrates the same date in 1966 that, after being a British colony for 339 years, it gained it's independence. The UK would still be hogging Barbados' epic rum if it didn't gain independence, and thus today is a grand day of celebration indeed.


Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill is quite possibly the most well known British politician (in my country, anywho), and for good reason. A writer, a battalion commander, a politician, many seats of government, and of course, twice was he Prime Minister. He certainly wasn't perfect, y'know, opposing Gandhi and all, but damn was he an important figure in history; notably WWII. Churchill was one of the first to throw the alarm on Hitler and Germany's rearmament, and he was right on the money. Not enough big guys listened to 'em sadly, and thus WWII still happened. But again Churchill does much more to stop the threat of Nazism: by keeping good ties with the US and keeping true to the phrase "politics makes strange bedfellows", WWII ended with Hitler dethroned and the world not governed by a single fascist crazy. I'd say such an accomplishment deserves just a bit of recognition. Yeah, just a bit.


Samuel Clemens, much better known by his pen name Mark Twain, is a writer of skill and infinite wit. Even if you know nothing about him, you'd probably know he wrote legendary books The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Clemens is a grand writer, there's no question about it; but his cleverness and intelligence for a 19th century novelist is damn well impressive I'd say. None the less, he was also fascinated by sciences and was a bit of a philosopher too. But be it cruel fate or truth to the saying "as one increaseth knowledge, one increaseth sorrow", he suffered through life quite a bit, saw a lot of death. My love for his books and especially his countless, well known quotes comes from that sharp wit, but also the cynical and even dark nature they can sometimes have. Birthday or not, this gets my pick of the day, 'cause Samuel Clemens is just a boss like that.


Abbot Howard "Abbie" Hoffman (I thought this dude was Abby Hoffman for a moment...) was a famous 20th century protester who had also co-founded the Yippies. I'd say he's nothing more than just your generic idealistic hippy from between the 60's and 70's, though...
