the ~Ask Anyone Anything~ thread

Anyone have a favorite film score composer? Who? Why? When did you first discover their brilliance? Elaborate, and if possible, post a Youtube link to a powerful piece composed by him.

Howard Shore...Lord of the Rings.

Starting around 1:30 or so.

John Williams. Harry Potter was a fad...but the music was good. Oh yeah, and STAR WARS. Also every other film ever made.

Hans Zimmer's alright. He recycles everything waaay too much though.

Should have stopped after Gladiator.

Nobuo Uematsu (okay, so he does video games, but he's just as good as any top of the line film composer), Danny Elfman, Cliff Martinez, Edward Shearmur, Thomas Newman.

Danny Elfman: Batman, Edward Scissorhands.

Definitely love Howard Shore's work on those movies.
He also worked on SNL in the 70s.

Do video game composers count?
I think Koji Kondo deserves some recognition.

I have another question..

You ever walk around in your house and pass a portrait of a loved-one, and it looks like they're looking at you? You'll move to the side of the picture, and it'll still look like they're looking at you?

It creeps me out, cause my mom had this photograph of my great grandmother, and it looked like she was always looking at me.

):

It's a simple trick; just look straight into the camera when you take a picture.

Another question..

Would any of you date someone who possesses a thick uni-brow? It should also be noted, that this person will never shave this uni-brow under any circumstances.

:O

I mean.... atleast I shave my mono...dunno about the rest of my face. :p

I think that would be a negative for me, I mean if they were by far the most amazing person I had ever met, then ok I guess i can deal with it, but like Deanis said, "if I can shave mine, they can shave theirs" so yea.

Absolutely not.

These questions you're asking aren't stemming from any personal issues, are they? :p

Of course not. 100% chance of no.

Why is President Bush from texas?

He's actually not, originally. He was born in Connecticut.
He resides in Texas because that's where his father, that immensely more competent former President, moved the family upon graduation, to enter the oil industry.

Oh, and I forgot to answer my own question.

Thomas Newman is without a doubt my favorite film score composer. His music is different in that he rarely rely on western instruments (besides a piano) or orchestral arrangements. His often very simple, repetitive piano themes tell a story with such intensity. They're very powerful, very haunting. They fit indescribably with whatever is happening on screen. Here's the recurring melodic theme in Revolutionary Road:
EDIT: ****'s sake, embedding was disabled.
If you care at all, which I'm certain you don't, look up Revolutionary Road end title on Youtube.

I think this question is pretty funny, haha. I don't really see why they would refuse to shave it, but whatever. If it was a full-blown unibrow, then I really don't think so. I dated a girl a few years ago that was kind of known for having a bit of excess hair in certain places, though, and I'm trying to get back with her now. No biggie.

^Nothing wrong with a hairy lady, well.. assuming the hair is growing in acceptable places.

To answer my own question. I would say, that I would. Uh, if she was pretty enough, had a great body, and a lovable personality...

Alright, so I admit.. it would be hard for me to look at them with that giant mustache on their forehead... but still.. couldn't be all that bad.

Absolutely not.
