no need for dlc and updates at this current time. the wii is enjoying enough success without them and is still heavy enough on the casual market to ignore some of the needs of mainstream hardcore gaming.
I'm sure once nintendo "grows up" and realizes online mutiplayer gaming is a huge factor in the success of a console in the realistic world of todays gaming standards, that there will be dlc and voice chat for the next iteration of smash.

Yeah I give my respects to Nintendo for that. That is proof that they are very "grown up", my friends.

voice chat rules could still be made though.
the online multi-player feature is a very great aspect that brawl has. this makes brawl possible to do many things. i think its possible for sakurai to add more event matches every month or two through wi-fi. just like what they do on world of warcraft. missions can be added to brawl every month or two. this feature wouldn't let brawl get old at all.
