Wow. I just remembered something.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl seems to be borrowing some aspects from Jump Super Stars.
For those of you that don't know, Jump Super Stars is basically a Super Smash Bros. DS, accept instead of Nintendo Characters, it has Shonen Jump characters (anime).
Characters from Death Not, Naruto, One Piece, you get the picture, and it's very (very) Brawl like.
In fact, it even had Assist trophies in the form of 'Manga Panels'.
The panels that take up less than 3 squares are 'Assist Trophy' like. You call them out and they do something awesome.
You can double jump, have 4 on 4 player fights. It just occurred to me how similar they are...
I played it and beat it (friend bought it from an import store, and I printed out a translation guide at GameFaqs).
So yeah... Assist Trophy = Assist Panels?

Apparently Mewtwo is most likely in Brawl because Pikachu, Pokemon Trainer, Lucario and Jigglypuff are a team in the Subspace Emissary but there is an empty space next to Jigglypuff's icon. So I think that supposedly confirms Mewtwo for Brawl
