Some bad news for Wii-owning Pokémon fans who might have been excited by the recent rumour that a new Pokémon RPG game will be coming out on the Wii as well as the 3DS. MCV reports that the series’ developer, GameFreak, has laid the rumour to rest by saying that core Pokémon games will only ever be released on handheld consoles. The rumour actually came to light following remarks made during a Nintendo investor call to the effect that a new Pokémon game would be coming to the Wii, but GameFreak has now clarified by saying that the Pokémon game will definitely not be a core RPG game.
“I consider handheld hardware you carry around with you as almost being equal to being with Pokémon” GameFreak co-founder Junichi Masada told IGN. “Also, you can communicate and transfer data all the time, whenever you want with a handheld. That’s also a match with the Pokémon concept.”
That’s not to rule out any more Pokémon games at all appearing on the Wii, similar to the likes of Battle Revolution and Pikachu’s Adventure, which have already appeared on the console, just not any core RPG games.
