Question about trading console numbers

Why is everybody so motivated to exchange console numbers?

Other than being able to send Mii's, messages, etc... what is the significance of having all of those Wii console numbers in your system?

Everybody is so motivated to exchange console numbers. Am I missing something here?

Who no's, I think its mainly the factor that your interacting with other gamers. And not just sitting there thinking why the hell did i buy this lol.
