Yes, I finally broke down and bought a Wii. It had been constantly taunting me wherever I went, sitting there saying "Buy Mii! Buy Mii!" until yesterday when I purchased it (and an extra controller) at my local Gamestop. My brother was staying over with me and we set it up and played bowling on the included WiiSports disc for most of the day. Myself I had become enamored by the Wii at a friends house where we play golf together, so I had to pick up the We Love Golf! game too so I could practice.
I must say the Wii is exactly what Nintendo had been hoping it would be. My brother doesn't even like video games, but you couldn't pull him away from bowling. I wasn't sure of the Wii at first myself because the controller looked like it would have issues being waved around in the air, but the Wiimote is probably the best wirless device I've seen. It is very sensitive and will even add a curve to your ball or a slice to your stroke with the slightest wrist movement.
All in all I'm very happy with it and it feels great to be back playing video games again. I haven't had a new game counsel since my PS2 five years ago, which unfortunately I had to sell to pay some bills.
I purchased my Wii on the evening of Wednesday, April 15 2009 at the local Wal-Mart. I had been debating which system would be the best out of the three for my family and I to enjoy. After roughly three months of back-and-forth between a PS3 and the Wii (I had an xBox 360 for about a year - of which it spent 4 months broken due to a bad tray sprocket) I decided that I would plunk down the money for a Wii. I fully expected it to sit in my TV cabinet until my daughters got here in the summer - I couldn't have been more wrong!
After set up, I decided I would "test out" a few games I had purchased, along with WiiSports. I was up until after 3 A.M. this morning playing tennis and learning the tutorial of the Legend of Zelda. Little surprise to anyone on these forums how much fun a Wii can be, even getting members of the family not usually into console gaming involved.
I think Nintendo hit a long-overdue home run with this one.
