You DO need a router to get your signal from your modem to the antenna in your laptop.

I just hooked all my gear to cable yesterday and got my Wii right on.

Hook the cable modem to your cable coax and run an Ethernet cable from the modem to your wireless router. Plug both in and they'll turn on and start sending out a wireless signal.
Now open IE or Firefox and see if your computer is connecting to the Internet. Try loading a webpage.
If you can't connect, take the Ethernet cord out of the back of the router and plug it directly into your computer. This should definitely get you online.
When I did this, it automatically went to setup for the network.
I re-plugged the router to the Ethernet cord and my computer picked up my signal right away. I haven't gotten into the settings for my router to secure it yet cuz that's when it kicks me off. I'm going to change the channel to 1 and it should still work and the Wii is supposed to work on 1 & 11 best. Mine is set to ch. 6 because I have a super g router and the Wii is ok.
I turned on the Wii, click the bottom left hand icon on the tv, go to Internet settings. Pick an empty connection slot, then tell it to search for the signal. It should find your wireless signal and you're on.
I have a netgear wgt624 super g router. ( I think those are the right letters....)
I didn't have any problems getting online with my laptop or the Wii but I'm afraid that when I go to secure my network, I'm going to have problems.
Like I said above, I've read about that happening when trying to secure the network and trying different channels on the router settings will eventually set it right.

Hi Progamer
My Wii connection on-line works fine for days on end playing Call of Duty World at War and then mysteriously I 'can't get a match'. When I came back from holidays, it worked fine for a few days. Could the wifi router be too far away? If so , why does it work sometimes and not others? thanks, (Jack)

My college network blocks me from downloading things from the shop channel. Is there any way around this, like using a proxy or something, or do I have to take my Wii somewhere else to do it?

Problem Connecting Wi-Fi with D-Link DI-524

First, I apologize if I'm repeating anything that's already been covered in a thread - I'm fairly new to this.

Now, I'm having issues connecting my Wii wirelessly. I used to have a modem/router combo with Bell (in Canada), and now I have a stand-alone modem with Rogers, with a wireless DI-524 D-Link router.

I've found a post here (http://www.wiichat.com/nintendo-wii-online/9597-wii-wont-find-my-dlink-di-524-wlan-router.html) stating that it IS possible to connect to the Wii wirelessly with this router, but that I might have to switch my router setting to 802.11b/g mixed. How can I do this?

Also, I'm only interested in downloading VC games with the online connection, not with playing vs or co-op games online (just in case we're worried about the router model being insufficient).

Any help would be appreciated.

hey pro gamer I can't connect to my access point anymore, when i used to be able before, is it because of the new update? cause it didn't do this before, and it says it can't connect to the server and to try later.
any help?

Hello. I am trying to connect my Wii to my Wireless Router via wireless connection. I typed in the password correctly but it says that there is some kind of error - Error 51330 o something.
I use the router to connect to my Macbook. Which connection does it have to be? WPA? Or something else?
If anyone can clarify, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you.

Help!
We have a wireless modem which supports voip.
But...we cannot get our wii or ds connected, thinking it might be security setting issues.
When we try to connect the Wii it gives us an error code of 51331. The "lock" is gold but not open.
Do you have any suggestions to help me out??????????
Thanks:crazy:

If you have any questions on how to get your wii onlineline then ask me. I will be glad to answer them.
Hello, I am having some trouble conecting my wii console to the internet. When I test the conection it seems to work, but then I cant get an update so it dosent work. Can you please tell what to do?

If your connection test is okay, go into Wii settings again and see how many bars your connection has. It needs 3 to download the updates. Also have you accepted the user agreements yet? Check those also. Then post back.

I am trying to connect to the internet through my wirelss G router. Do I need a wireless adapter to plug into the USB port on the Wii. It recognizes the network, but does not connect. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks,
Bill

Hiya

Im new to this forum and found this thread seems pretty legit.

This is my situation:
(Im not to used to these terms that u guys use so pls dumb it down for me XD.)
I have a Wii, and a computer with internet ( WOW =D), How do I 1.connect my wii with the internet 2.Update my wii (Cuz apparently some games i need to update) 3.Im not looking forward to using wii for browsing too much, im more looking forward to Updating it, so do i still need that usb thing?

I have a wii that was bought from Hong Kong and it is a japanese wii, but i live in North America, is it still possible to use the NA made Wi-Fi adapter for my wii?

Another thing is my Wii is modded, if I were to go online and the wii were to update itself, will I not be able to play burned games anymore? or do i chose whether or not to update?

I hope you can help, so far Nintendo support can't. I just purchased my Wii and have connected it to my wireless network. The connection test passes, the router acknowledges the Wii but I can't connect to any of the channels and can't do any updates. My router is old but still supports Wii. It is a Netgear MR814.

I have been walked through setting it up manually and that failed totally. I am at a loss and waiting to hear from an "advanced" Nintendo tech support.
