A buddy just did it for me (yesterday), and it worked. But instead of to bateries, i bought a DC Power Transformer, and connected it to it.
At 6V works perfect, but the sensor bar gets hot, so i was about to test 4.5 today, but i forgot it at a friends house. So i would test tomorrow.
But before doing it, i read a lot. And the main issue could be bad soldering.
Take into consideration that the cables are very thing a fragile, and also, they are covered by a little layer of plastic that you should burn using match, not more than 20 secs, before soldering.
