Major League Baseball

Funny little news article about the Marlins and Mets.

During one of the town hall meetings Saturday at FanFest, Marlins president David Samson told the audience that the Mets called the league office and requested they not finish the regular season against the Marlins. The last two years, Marlins season-ending wins at Shea Stadium eliminated the Mets from postseason contention.

Turns out Samson was kidding.

New York Daily News Mets beat writer Adam Rubin considered it serious enough to address in his blog. He confirmed the Mets made no such call.

This year, the Marlins' last chance to spoil a Mets' playoff push is during a September 25-27 weekend series at Dolphin Stadium. The Marlins finish the regular season on the road again, this time with three in Atlanta and three in Philadelphia.

^^ Yea i read that. No words :/

Mets have announced Johan will NOT pitch at the world baseball classic.

Really how many players aren't juicing would be more interesting for me. I'd rather know that then who has in the past or is now.

Saw that one coming. He needs to be 100% ready after offseason knee surgery...

Alright so i been thinking about this whole A-Rod and steroids thing and i have came up with this....ill say more tomorrow..kind oftired rightnow.

Steroids were a ban drug back in 2000-2003, BUT there was no punishment for using. Meaning the league knew it and allowed it. They knew that this 'drug' was going to bring in money. Also these results from back then were supposed to be anonymous, why werent they burned or tossed or something? Then it got me thinking when A-Rod said, he wasnt aware that he had passed or failed those test. Now, do i believe him? I dont know, but for arguments sake i will. He was only told that he may or maynot be on that list...thats bullshit. How can you set a man uplike that. Then when he goes and had that interview with Katie Kourik he denies using steroids. Well ofcourse the man would cuz to his knowledge he thinks he passed all those test cuz the Mitchell Report dropped and his name was no where to be found.

Now granted i do say that using the steroid is wrong, but Barry Bonds said this and i do agree 100000% with this. "The steroids dont help with hand-eye coordination, it doesnt make us better, just stronger". I agree with that, steroids arent gonna make you pick up what pitch it is or how fast its comin. Its the point of contact that it helps.

While I understand your reasoning, it just doesn't seem natural to me.

I can respect that he apologized to the Texas fans though, I will commend him for that...

I agree that its wrong, I am not saying otherwise. What am i saying is that the way this all came out was wrong. These results were supposed to stay anonymous and this was during a time where your werent even slapped on the wrist for doing this. Plus throw in you werent even told if you passed or failed, and thats one ****ed up situation for any player.
We all know how long the seasons are and what they do to a mans body, now dont think i am protecting them cuz i am not. Lets say for anyones sake that they just energy boosters and there was a tint of anabolic steroids in it. Now this mans career is tainted cuz he wanted that extra boost in October.
The point im making is the MLB ****ed up big time here. The records/tests should have been thrown out and never to be seen again. If you know about something at the given time and dont do anything about, then you are guilty yourself.

Well, let's keep the baseball rolling here...

The Performance enhancing beast does not go away.

Former all-star shortstop of the Houston Astros, Miguel Tejada is expected to plead guilty in court to charges that he lied to the House Oversight Committee about knowledge that another teammate with the Oakland A's used steroids. The alleged infraction happened in 2005 when he was called to speak in front of the House. The FBI also believes that he purchased HGH from the same teammate in 2003. Tejada won the American League MVP in 2002, and was blamed by Rafael Palmiero for his failed test in 2005.

The FBI is also investigating perjury charges against Roger Clemens that he knowingly lied when he spoke before Congress in 2008.

This PR disaster for MLB is getting worse by the day, and I am almost dreading who is on the list of 103 other players who failed the drug test in 2003. Hopefully no Mets.

Gloves were popping in Port St. Lucie today as Johan Santana & John Maine threw off the mound. As you know, both are coming off of surgeries...

John Maine, who is coming back from surgery to fix a bone spur in his right shoulder, threw off the mound here for the second time in four days and said he is pitching without pain. That is in sharp contrast to last season, when Maine said he couldn't even throw between starts because of the soreness. The spur wasn't removed, Maine added, but rather shaved down instead. "I feel a lot, lot better," Maine said.

As expected, Johan Santana threw off the mound here this morning for the first time since knee surgery last October. Santana tossed 18 pitches under the supervision of bullpen coach Randy Niemann and conditioning coach Guy Conti, then pronounced himself ready to throw a full bullpen session on Thursday.

Well, well, well. Some news about a familiar face...

The NY Post reports that the Mets have signed Jose Valentin to a minor league contract.

Valentin would earn $800,000 if he were to make the team out of Spring Training.

Valentin was the Mets' primary second baseman in 2006 when he hit .271 with 18 homers.

He broke his tibia the following season and last year never played in the majors, leaving the Mets' Triple-A team in June claiming mental and physical duress.

Valentin certainly had some big moments during his first go-around with the Mets, but I don't see any real chance of him making the team. Most likely, he was signed to fill out a spring roster that is expected to have 14 of its regular players compete in the WBC.

It will be nice to see another familiar face in spring games, while Wright, Reyes, Beltran and a dozen other Mets are busy promoting Major League Baseball around the world.

Now while I'm not expecting him to make the team, I'll be glad to see him again. He was awesome in 06 & decent in 07 before he got hurt. I thought he was great defensively & hell, 18 homers is a lot more than 3 (Castillo)!!! Do I feel like Castillo deserves a shot at redemption?? Somewhat, but as a fan, I'm giving him a short leash before I get fed up with him again...

- Rangers finalized their deal with Andruw Jones. They got him on some weird deal, he signed for $500,000 with incentives and he has the ability to opt out or be cut the end of March and all this other BS...anyway they got him.

- Astros have signed outfielder Michael Bourn, right-hander Sammy Gervacio, and left-handers Polin Trinidad and Wesley Wright to one-year contracts.

- The Mariners might be bring an old face back home. They are currently in talk with Ken Griffey Jr.

- The Angles are on the verge (should happen today) of signing Bobby Abreu. Its a one year deal, no money was said yet....makes me wonder why the Mets didnt jump in.....

- Dodgers have signed left-hander Eric Milton to a minor league contract worth $650K.

- 'Jello' arm Tommy Glavine is set to meet with the Braves today to talk contract.

- Brewers are on the verge of signing Braden Looper.

EDIT: Abreu has signed.......
“worth a little more than $5 million and also includes incentives.”

Adam Dunn signed a 2 year deal with Washington. Terms have not yet been disclosed.

Miguel Tejada pleaded guilty today to lying to Congressional staffers about the use of performance-enhancing drugs. The misdemeanor can lead to as much as a year in jail.
