Is there a way to unlock the additional tracks?

My boys just got a Wii for Christmas, and it's the first game system I've played around with since my Colecovision...

If I understand the manual correctly, you unlock the additional 16 tracks by winning cups. They're young, so it's going to take them forever to do that so I was wondering if there was a workaround.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it by searching...

You either have finish the cups, or you can play races a couple hundred times before you unlock the game's extra features if I recall correctly.
