A 2D pokemon console game won't ever happen, if you ask me... The battles should be 3D, but a 2D view of the game just wouldn't happen. Nintendo's too stupid to stick with the tried and true, and as you said, actually listen to their fans. We can only hope that the next 3D game (if any) won't be as terrible as XD or Colosseum...
