getting across purple bog/fog

I'm already at the part of the game where you need to escort the Zoran Prince, and upon reviewing some FAQ @ GameFAQs, I realized that I missed the first piece of heart in the game, which is in the northwestern section of the purple bog/fog area. Is there anyway I can get across past this purple mist to get that piece of heart, any help is appreciated.

you need your lantern with oil

That part is easy

take your lanturn and swing it to make the fog go away ( do so constently)

hahaha I shoulda remembered that the monkey stole my lantern in the beginning of the game and then proceeded to swing it around like a flail constantly...stupid me :mad2:
