another nintendo rant

Buy Galaxy.

Honestly, I had been feeling the same way, although I don't mind the casual stuff as much as you.

Then I played Galaxy. It made my proud to support Nintendo. Even little things, like the coin I got for reserving it (complete with a certificate of authenticity) are just a reminder that Nintendo still knows we're here.

I personally think we're getting more casual or games that have been "casualized" because of the general focus on a specific audience by Nintendo. I don't have a problem with casual games built from the ground up, but I really don't like a game being dumbed down when compared to similar or the same title on other platforms. Wii isn't the only thing I play games on, so it doesn't really bother me. I have a PC for FPS, RTS (when I play them), RPGs, MMORPG... genres that are typically (not always) associated with a more hardcore audience.

I do see your point
I mean the Online isn't close enough to good yet. And hardcore gamers need these options.

Headset:
Sure Nintendo don't want kids talking to strangers. So they could have a password protection within the parental controls to mute both mic and mic sounds during online play.

A better online experience is needed really. The hardcore games are coming. But with Metroid NOT being online it was a sure let down. At least we have Brawl, but by then many people would've changed onto 360 or PS3.

They have the casual gamers sorted now. They need to get on the hardcore train and catch up

it was their cynnical plan to make us believe that it's coming out in Dec. 3 so that people would buy the Wii instead of other gaming consoles! Now that they revealed it's delayed, for some people, it's too late now...

Very sneaky Ninty.... Very sneaky...

Thats the thing.
Wii is simply doing a better job of reaching out to the casual.
But it has not left the "hardcore" in the dust so to speak.

All I have to say is Galaxy.
Wow, despite the E rating that may turn people away, its easily the best game I have played in a long long time.

Then we have Mario Kart and Brawl.
Wii's future is bright, don't worry about it.

I don't believe in this opinion. Yes we have more casual games, but we still get our "hardcore" offerings. Zelda: TP, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Super Paper Mario, Battalion Wars 2 ect. I could go on further but there are plenty of "hardcore" titles. Infact we are getting them quicker then what we got on the Game Cube. These casual games can also be fun, mini game compliations may not be considered "hardcore" but if I have a couple of mates over they're a blast. Heck I'm sure you enjoyed Wii Spots, but that isn't exactly "hard core".

Uhmm... I'm not really sure SPM is a "hardcore" game at all. It was supposed to simple and attractive to casual gamers. There actually arent that many "hardcore" games out. Half the games out there are just mediocre games that devs just send out there to make extra cash. I can count all of the available "hardcore" games on one hand.

SPM is definitely not a casual game. Casual games are typically things like Wii Sports and Mario Party. Stuff where you don't have to save your progress and continue later and are easy to pick up and play at a moments notice for a few minutes at a time.

Well Hardcore is a mindset. Not a game. No game is hardcore by nature. People might be hardcore over MP;3 or Zelda;tp, but the games themselves are not hardcore.

A casual could be hardcore over Carnival Games. The only game my sister plays is Nintendogs. She's hardcore about it. Yet some would call her casual.

People that love Sims games are usually hardcore. I don't know if you would classify MySims as hardcore, but some of the hardcore Sims players are hardcore over it.

Pokemon? Kids game that has many hardcore users.

Many just think hardcore means the games 'they' are hardcore about. It's not. Get over it.

Besides, there's Metroid Prime 3; Mario Galaxy; Zelda:tp; Scarface, Godfather, Medal of Honor. Oh dang, I ran out of fingers to count with. Better stop.

Want to provide us with a definition on "hardcore" then? :) As I agree with Skippy and sirgrim at this point.

That was a cool touch wasn't it? I think Galaxy will more that meet expectations as far a difficulty goes. It brought back the pleasent memories I had when Super Mario 64 came out, the sence of wonder and magic, that is Nintendo. :yesnod: :yesnod:

i heard that same thing last year oO

As someone who owns every Nintendo system I can assure all of you that the Wii has delivered more goods than the Cube did within the same time period and is on par, maybe a little ahead of the N64's offerings.

We got Zelda:TP as a launch title (port or not, its still an awesome game), Metrid Prime:Corruption in September and Super Mario Galaxy in November. Soon we will have SSBB and a slew of other great titles.

Its no 360, but the Wii is delivering some great hardcore games. I think Nintendo is doing what Nintendo has done since the N64, that being the best releases are generally the 5 or 6 1st party titles and anything else we get is butter.

I also think we will see better games from 3rd party developers based on Wii console sales. Developers go to where the money and install base is and right now its the Wii. For the most part the industry felt the Wii would be another cube or N64...fortunately for us they were wrong and it has been a success. It takes time to make AAA games so I expect some great games that would have been absent on the Cube or N64 to start showing their head in the future.

Hopefully next years E3 will have bombshell announcements.

Your Welcome

I'm in agreement with Mariotard. The main negative is that the Wii wasn't taken seriously from the outset. Now the lingering negative is that some developers are still obsessed with making "so-called" pretty games with massive textures. I can't really blame them because thats what their programmers want to do and if you can't hire those guys then you can't do anything.
