IndustryGamers reports today that Gears of War developer and creator of the Unreal Engine 3, Epic Games, has expressed its interest in the Wii U. Epic’s President, Mike Capps, recently spoke about the Wii U to IndustryGamers, telling them that although Epic has yet to make an official statement about any possible future involvement with Nintendo and the Wii U, “going forward, we’re working with those folks and we’re very interested in the Wii U.”
Capps explained to IndustryGamer that although Epic “loved” the Wii, the developer was unable to find a way of making a game that would work on Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii. However, that is clearly not the case with the Wii U, which will be on an equal footing power-wise with the Xbox 360 and the PS3, and maybe even a little ahead of them.
How cool would it be to see a Gears of War game on the Wii U in future?!“At the launch event at E3, some of the products that you saw running on Wii U were based on Unreal Engine technology,” Capps told IndustryGamer. “So that kind of gives you an idea of where we are in that space. You can certainly use our engine on that platform – it’s a natural fit from a technology perspective. It opens up some doors that weren’t open before on current generation consoles because it is going to be a powerful box. I’m sure Mark Rein (Epic VP) would love anyone who’s interested to know how official our support is to get in touch with him!”
