Xenosaga Creator’s New RPG Xenoblade Coming to Wii-1.052010-01-29 19:53:32Maura SThis is turning into a really great day to be an RPG-loving Wii owner, as aside from announcing The Last Story from Mistwalker, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has also announced Xenoblade for the Wii, which is being developed by Monolith Soft. According to Wired, the announcement was made at the same financial briefing today in Japan where The Last Story was unveiled. What makes this news possibly even more exciting though, is the fact that it may well be some sort of sequel to the fantastic futuristic Japanese RPG, Xenosaga, judging by the name and the fact that Xenosaga was also a Monolith Soft game.
Wired points out that Xenoblade was shown at E3 2009, but back then it was called Monado: The Beginning of the World.
Here’s what Iwata had to say about the name change, as reported by Wired:
“We decided to call it Xenoblade to honour Mr Tetsuya Takahashi, who poured his soul into making this and who has been working on the Xeno series.”
Ten Japanese screenshots from the game were also released at E3, and we’ve managed to find them. They seem to strongly indicate that Xenoblade is very much a traditional RPG, with levelling and EXP and battles with great big monsters and all that good stuff!
According to Wired, the game is due to be released in Japan this spring. No word as to whether or not it will get a worldwide release as yet. Meanwhile, you could always try checking out the official Japanese website. Even if you don’t speak Japanese, there are bound to be some videos and more screenshots popping up there soon.
