Wiimote cursor works on homescreen but not on certain things from the homescreen

The cursor shows up when it's on the homepage, but if i try to go to the mii screen the cursor is gone, and i tried my hardest to get it to come back on the screen. I can have the cursor pointed dead in the middle of the screen and hit the home button on the remote that has the screen pop up that says wii home or reset and there is no cursor. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks
