Here’s the scoop: According to Wii U Daily, which in turn is citing an internal email from a Tokyo-based games store, the Nintendo Wii U will be hitting shelves on November 18, 2012. Though the release date is at the moment nothing more than a rumor, it would absolutely make sense—we already know that Nintendo is aiming for a holiday 2012 window, and the original Wii launched in about the same spot.
We’ll know more about the system and its hardware when Nintendo officially unveils it at this year’s E3, but for now it would appear developers aren’t impressed with what it has to offer. According to one anonymous dev working on a title for the upcoming console, it’s “just not as powerful” as the Xbox 360 or PS3.Theese comments were echoed by another developer, who noted that while some things are better, it’s still a relatively weak system.
We’ll keep you updated as details roll out. For now, it appears that Nintendo is sticking with its game plan of releasing affordable if dated hardware, and hoping its exclusive licenses and innovations can cover the rest.
Will you be picking up a Wii U?
